It’s gotta be a hard job adapting a video game into a TV show. Expectations are high for fans who already know and love the video game. And those expectations are even high when it’s something as popular as The Last of Us. After the massive success of the first season of The Last of Us on HBO and the video game it’s based on, there’s a lot of pressure on season 2 — and specifically on the cast.
The Last of Us Season 2 premieres on April 13, and of course the show’s two leads — Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie — are returning. But, as fan of the game know, the the second season will open the post-apocalyptic zombie world up even more with more characters. Set five years after the season 1 finale, The Last of Us season 2 pick up with Joel and Ellie living in the survivor community Jackson, and dealing with the fallout of everything that went down with the Fireflies.
While most of the new season 2 characters also appear in the game, there are also some newbies who are getting introduced just for the TV show. Across the board, there are some really big names joining the cast of The Last of Us for season 2. Here’s your guide to the season 2 Last of Us cast, including how you know the actors.
The Last Of Us Season 2 Cast
Pedro Pascal as Joel
Pedro returns to play number one daddy Joel who will do anything — even kill the people who hold humanity’s last hope — in order to keep her safe. Besides The Last of Us season 1, you know Pedro from The Mandalorian, Game of Thrones, and Wonder Woman 1984 (Remember that one? Me neither).
Bella Ramsey as Ellie
And of course Bella is back as Ellie, who begins season 2 in a major fight with Joel over betrayal/rescue at the end of season 1. Before The Last of Us, Bella was in Game of Thrones and Catherine Called Birdy.
Kaitlyn Dever as Abby
Abby is a Firefly who’s seeking revenge against Joel, and is one of the most memorable characters from the video game. So, Kaitlyn Dever has some big shoes to fill. She’s known for her roles in Booksmart, Unbelievable, and Apple Cider Vinegar.
Catherine O’Hara as Gail
Gail, Joel’s therapist, is a totally new character for the TV show, so it’ll be exciting to see what Catherine brings to the table. Obvi, Catherine O’Hara is an icon, and you know her from Schitt’s Creek, Home Alone, and Beetlejuice.
Isabella Merced as Dina
Ellie gets a new love interest in Dina, who’s played by Isabella Merced. Before this, Isabela was Dora the Explorer herself in Dora and the Lost City of Gold. She was also in Transformers: The Last Knight.
Young Mazino as Jesse
Jesse is a key member of the Jackson community, and he’s played by Young Mazino from Netflix’s Beef.
Jeffrey Wright as Isaac
Here’s a rare case of the actor from the video game also making his way to the TV show. In the game, Jeffrey Wright provided the voice and motion capture acting for Isaac, a ruthless leader of the group the Washington Liberation Front. You might recognize Jeffrey from American Fiction, Westworld, and The Hunger Games movies.
Gabriel Luna as Tommy
Joel’s brother Tommy is back this season, continuing to keep things running in Jackson. Gabriel also played Tommy in The Last of Us season 1, and he’s also in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Terminator: Dark Fate.
Rutina Wesley as Maria
Danny’s wife Maria is back as well, and she’s played by Rutina Wesley from Queen Sugar and True Blood.
Danny Ramirez as Manny
Manny is a former Firefly and one of the best soldiers in the Washington Liberation Front. He’s played by Danny Ramirez from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Top Gun: Maverick.
Ariela Barer as Mel
Mel is a medic in the Washington Liberation Front and she’s played by Ariela Barer from Runaways.
Spencer Lord as Owen
Owen is Mel’s boyfriend and another solider. He also used to date Abby — drama! He’s played by Spencer Lord, who’s been in The Good Doctor and Heartland.
Tati Gabrielle as Nora
Nora is another medic in the Washington Liberation Front. You might recognized Tati Gabrielle from The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.
