Sunday nights in the near future are looking a lot emptier (and full of a lot fewer memes) now that The White Lotus season 3 is over. The vacation is over, the last piña coladas were drunk (or slapped out of everyone’s hands), and now we just have to sit and wait for The White Lotus season 4.
We don’t know yet where the fourth White Lotus resort will be located, but series creator Mike White hinted at a possible change of scenery in his “after the episode” interview on HBO after the season 3 finale. “For the fourth season, I want to get a little bit out of the crashing waves of rocks vernacular but there’s always more room for more murders at the White Lotus hotels,” he said.
Mike has also hinted that The White Lotus season 4 might see a return to satirizing “art and criticism, movies, fame and celebrity.” He said on the official series podcast, “Like a film festival type of thing or something like that, or like an art world sort of situation. It just feels like that would be some kind of new theme to get into that’s maybe a little less heady than what we just did, but still have some juice to it.”
Satirizing fame and celebrity in a beautiful resort location? Sounds like exactly the kind of White Lotus season fans are craving. But unfortunately, there is no release date yet for the next season, so it’ll probably be a while before we get to see it. So, in the meantime, here are some shows like The White Lotus that can fill the void while we wait to pack our bags for the next White Lotus trip.
Shows Like The White Lotus
The Perfect Couple
This Netflix series stars not one, but two White Lotus alums: Meghann Fahy and sweet little Lochy aka Sam Nivola. Not only that, but it tells the story of a murder at a fancy rich people wedding on the beach. Very White Lotus-coded!
No Good Deed
The only thing rich people love more than going on vacation is getting caught up in buying and selling real estate. This Netflix show (from the creator of Dead To Me) stars Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano as the owners of a big Los Angeles house who get embroiled in some drama when they try to sell it. Oh, and there’s murder in this one, too!
Nine Perfect Strangers
If you specifically want to watch rich people on vacation, then this is your show. Nine Perfect Strangers has a slightly darker tone then The White Lotus, and it stars Nicole Kidman as a culty wellness leader. Season 2 is coming out soon on Hulu, so now is a good time to catch up.
Little Fires Everywhere
The White Lotus does a great job of skewering class differences between the resort guests and the resort workers. If you’re looking for some more class commentary in your TV dramas, then this Hulu limited series should do the trick. Plus, it stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington, so it also scratches the itch of watching iconic actresses be iconic.
Schitt’s Creek
If you’re anything like me, you desperately want to see what happens to the Ratliff family after they get back home having lost all their money. In my head canon, it looks a little something like Schitt’s Creek.
Gossip Girl
Hear me out. I don’t think any other show can quite match the chaos levels of White Lotus like the original Gossip Girl can. Some of the wild turns from the late-season storylines are truly mind-boggling and worthy of a re-watch.
