The Victim of The MomTok Swinging Scandal: Miranda and Chase McWhorter’s Relationship

Personally, I view the world as a pre-and post-MomTok Swinging Scandal. Y’all are still out here using BC or AD (I still don’t know the difference!!!) while I’m measuring time in BTM and ATM—Before Taylor’s Moment and After Taylor’s Moment. One of the couples caught in the crossfire? Miranda and Chase McWhorter, who got name-dropped in Taylor’s infamous TikTok exposé, much to their horror.

So, who are the McWhorters? Is that even a real last name? What’s happened to them since the swinging bombshell, and why are we talking about them again in 2025? From meet-cute to messy breakup, here’s the full timeline of Miranda and Chase McWhorter’s relationship, right up to season 2 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.

A Comprehensive Relationship Timeline For Miranda And Chase McWhorter

Miranda and Chase met shortly after Miranda graduated high school in 2016, according to a couple’s Q&A on her YouTube. In true Utah/Mormon fashion (no shade), things escalated fast. They were engaged within a year. The couple hard-launched on Instagram in March 2016 in a group photo with friends—casual, low-stakes, and yet the beginning of it all.

2017

Here comes the bride, all dressed in whiteand Mormon-approved undergarments (again, no shade—Jen on TSLOMW made those sound iconic). At the time, Miranda was 20, and Chase was 22. Chase announced the wedding on Instagram with: “Almost a week down… for marriage advice or questions let us know. we have all the answers 🙌🏽😂.” Spoiler alert: they did not.

2019

In February, the couple announced that Miranda is pregnant— I guess we’re expecting!!!! By September, Miranda and Chase—the McWhorters—welcomed their first child: Brooks.

“Brooks Wesley McWhorter💙,” Miranda shared on Instagram. “He made his grand entrance September 7th at 6:13 pm. 8 lbs 13 oz 21in. The amount of love we feel for this tiny human is indescribable💙.”

2020-2021

Miranda starts her rise through the ranks of MomTok, collaborating with fellow Mormon influencers like Taylor Frankie Paul and Camille Munday. She posts family updates, choreographed dances, and cute chaos, slowly growing her follower count.

Together with Taylor and Camille, she co-founds the lifestyle brand Happy Valley. It’s giving friendship bracelets, brunches, and brand collabs.

2021

In October, baby #2 arrives—a little girl this time.

“Cohen Roo McWhorter🤍,” Miranda wrote on Instagram. “8lbs 10oz, 19 inches of perfection. My heart just doubled in size🥺 we are so in love with you baby Coco💕.”

2022

The scandal. THE scandal. The soft-swinging scandal that shook TikTok—and every group chat — forever.

Taylor reveals she and now-ex Tate Paul were in a “soft swinging” circle with their MomTok crew… but someone caught feelings. The internet promptly zeroed in on Chase.

Miranda and Chase denied involvement at first, but details trickled out. Eventually, Chase admitted to attending “those kinds of parties” but said it wasn’t as intentional as Taylor made it sound.

“It all started during Covid. [It was] a bunch of our friends coming — couples — and then we’d all get trashed on alcohol, and then, like, these games would come up,” he told Us Weekly. “Spin the bottle or whatever.”

He added: “It was never predetermined that we were going to be doing, like, swinging. That’s what we always thought was a little bit misrepresented in Taylor’s story.”

Following the fallout, Miranda and Taylor’s friendship crashed and burned. Miranda and Camille unfollowed Taylor on social media. Miranda later accused Taylor of spreading rumors that Chase had caught feelings for her, sparking more drama. But recently, Miranda went on The Viall Files podcast and casually confirmed that, yes, she and Chase had sex while another couple did the same “in the other corner of the room.”

2024

After seven years of marriage, Miranda announced their divorce on TikTok in August 2024. Still, she insisted it was amicable, and they remained committed co-parents.

Chase later reflected on their split: “I think we both realized that we’d gotten married a little prematurely, and that’s why our relationship still is pretty, good [now], like, we’re really cordial, really friendly,” he said. “[I] still chat with her a lot whenever she drops the kids off, and vice versa. I think it’s working out really well, and we’re kind of figuring out how to continue navigating that in a positive way.”

Oh, and then Taylor came back again. In a TikTok that August, she called Miranda out for allegedly blocking her from joining The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives reality show, claiming Miranda and Camille only agreed to participate if Taylor wasn’t involved.

2025

In the twistiest plotline yet, Miranda joins The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives anyway, stepping into the drama she supposedly wanted no part of. Her appearance promises closure (and probably more chaos) regarding the swinging scandal, but early previews hint that beef with her ex-besties is far from squashed.

So, where do we go from here? If we’ve learned anything from the MomTok Cinematic Universe, it’s that no friendship — or marriage — is safe when TikTok fame and “spin the bottle” are involved.
