Kate Hudson Just Dropped Some Wisdom That Made Me *Really* Excited About Getting Older

We live in a world that makes women feel insecure about getting older. I mean, why else do you think women think their prime is 25? Have you ever met a 25-year-old?

These attitudes about aging are especially reinforced by Hollywood. Think about all of the celebs who get loads of plastic surgery to try and make themselves look younger. But we get so caught up in trying to preserve our youth that we forget that we actually get better and better with age.

One celeb who’s definitely embracing getting older is Kate Hudson. Kate’s been an actress since the 90s, and while many of her peers may be desperately gripping onto their younger past, Kate has been super vocal about loving the woman she’s grown into and just how freeing getting older is. In a recent interview with Bustle, she broke down just how much she’s learned about herself and what she wants out of her life. And if you ever need a reminder of just how badass women get with age, here are some quotes from Kate’s interview that you can keep in mind.

The Sex Becomes Less Pretty And More Fun

“The best part about sex in your 40s, honestly, is the freedom,” she said. “Sex isn’t supposed to be pretty, and I think that when you get older, you kind of have more fun with that.”

I’m not exactly on board with this one, but, hey, maybe I’ll change my mind with age. I’m currently in the stage where I’m definitely having fun with sex, but I also like it when it’s pretty.

You Become Really Sure Of Yourself

One thing that really excited me about getting older is giving less of a fuck about what people think of me — and never letting other people’s opinions affect what I’m sure about in my own life. Thankfully, Kate just reinforced that this is totally true.

“I’m very clear about the things that I really want to be doing now in my life,” she said. “Whether it’s good, whether it’s bad, I know how my machine wants to function.”

Family Is Super Important

You always hear people look back at their lives and think about how important family is to their whole being — and Kate is no different in this regard.

“At the end of the day, our family is what matters in life,” she said. “From my brothers, to my nephews and nieces, to my sister-in-laws, to my mom, my dad, to my partner, his brothers. I think that’s where the real kind of self-possessed nature comes from.”

Confidence Is A Lifelong Journey That Starts When You’re Young

You might look at Kate and think she’s naturally confident — I mean, you do have to have a certain level of assurance to get into acting. But she explained that it’s something she’s been working on (with the help of her family) since she was young.

“Sometimes when you’re that young and you’re that self-possessed, there’s a lot of people that want to bring you down,” she said. “But my parents always assured me that that wasn’t about me. That it was OK to go out there and do a routine by myself.”

Looking back, she calls that support and confidence the “greatest gift early on in her career.”

Becoming More Confident Doesn’t Mean Never Being Insecure

You’d think that getting older and more confident means that those random bouts of insecurity are gone for good, but that’s not necessarily the case.

“God, you’d be a sociopath if you just had the confidence to walk into anything or be fearless in everything,” Kate said. And that’s okay because as you get older, you’ll have the tools to remind yourself that even though you may be insecure, you’re still that girl. And if even Kate Hudson gets insecure sometimes, we’ll all be okay.
