So, there will not be a Heartstopper season 4, but fans of the adorable Netflix show can still get excited: We’re getting a Heartstopper movie! Six months after season 3 aired, the streamer announced that in lieu of a final season, a feature film will “conclude the story of Nick, Charlie and their friends, with the narrative based around the yet unreleased volume six of Alice Oseman’s graphic novels.” Icons Joe Locke and Kit Connor will star in it (duh) and they’ll also serve as executive producers on the movie. This is tremendous news for teens and for those of us who are still obsessed with teen drama shows despite the fact that we haven’t been teens in many, many years.
“I am completely overjoyed that we will get to tell the end of the Heartstopper story,” Alice said in a press release about the upcoming movie. “I’m so grateful to everyone who has worked hard to make this possible and to the incredible fans of Heartstopper for your patience and passion. I cannot wait to bring this story to a magical conclusion.” Here’s everything to know about the Heartstopper movie, including the release date, cast, and plot.

Heartstopper Movie Release Date
Netflix hasn’t announced a release date just yet, but we do know that filming will start in summer 2025. I fear we’ll probably have to wait until at least 2026 for the final product.
Heartstopper Movie Cast
Obviously, Kit and Joe will star in the film, which will be directed by Wash Westmoreland. There haven’t been any official casting announcements aside from the lead actors, but stay tuned for more updates soon. Since Nick and Charlie’s “friends” are mentioned in the synopsis, I’m guessing we can also expect to see other series regulars in the movie, including: Yasmin Finney (Elle Argent), William Gao (Tao Xu), Sebastian Croft (Ben Hope), Tobie Donovan (Isaac Henderson), and Jenny Walser (Tori Spring). And surely, the woman, the myth, the legend, Olivia Colman, will return to play Nick’s mom.
Heartstopper Movie Plot
The series finale movie will be written by Alice and based on the upcoming sixth and final volume of her graphic novel. (The three seasons of the show covered two volumes each.) According to the official film synopsis, Nick and Charlie are still “inseparable,” but they’re facing new challenges as Nick prepares to leave for college and Charlie’s “finding new independence” himself. As they struggle with navigating their long-distance relationship, “doubts take hold.” In addition to Nick and Charlie’s story, the film will explore what happens with their friends, who are “also navigating the ups and downs of love and friendship” and “confronting the bittersweet challenges of growing up and moving on.”
