PSA: Chappell Roan would like some goddamn boundaries and respect. If you just so happen to see her out and about somewhere, please leave her the fuck alone. The “Red Wine Supernova” singer has repeatedly expressed her discomfort with intense fan interactions that started occurring when she shot to fame a few months ago. In a few August 19 TikToks, she urged fans to cut out the creepy stalker behavior. “I don’t want whatever the fuck you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” she said, bluntly. “I don’t give a fuck if you think it’s selfish of me to say no for a photo or for your time, or to — for a hug. That’s not normal. That’s weird.”
Chappell explained that she’s just a “random bitch” to us, and she emphasized, “I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior.” Yes, queen. Set those boundaries. Clock those creeps. After receiving a wave of backlash for those videos, she shared a notes app post a few days later, reiterating how she feels and thanking fans for their support. And it seems like she’s not alone in this need for clear boundaries: Several other famous folks are reacting positively to her message.

On August 23, Chappell took to Instagram to further emphasize her comments about setting boundaries with fans. As she should! “For the past 10 years l’ve been going nonstop to build my project and it’s come to the point that I need to draw lines and set boundaries,” she wrote. “I want to be an artist for a very very long time.”
Chappell added, “I just need to lay it out and remind you, women don’t owe you shit. I chose this career path because I love music and art and honoring my inner child, I do not accept harassment of any kind because I chose this path, nor do I deserve it.” She explained that she doesn’t “owe a mutual exchange of energy, time, or attention to people I do not know, do not trust, or who creep me out— just because they’re expressing admiration.”
The singer called out “predatory behavior (disguised as ‘superfan’ behavior)” that has “become normalized because of the way women who are well-known have been treated in the past.” She won’t stand for it, thank goodness.
Toward the end of her notes app reflections, Chappell thanked fans for their support and shared, “There is a part of myself that I save just for my project and all of you. There is a part of myself that is just for me, and I don’t want that taken away from me.” Period.
