Hang your Chanel jackets at half-mast today, Anna Wintour is retiring from Vogue, at least the American edition. After nearly 40 years of manning fashion’s most famous ship as the HBIC and throwing the world’s chicest night out, Anna and her bob are stepping down from her current role, to the resounding shock of every girl who grew up watching The Devil Wears Prada. Love her or leave her, Anna Wintour has made a massive impact on fashion history, and thus, hearing this groundbreaking news is kind of like hearing Naomi Campbell has retired from modeling, even though Miss Thing is 72 years old (a great age to say fuck it).
I have half a mind to walk over to the Met and pop a bottle of champagne, just because. But is Anna Wintour actually stepping down from Vogue, and if so, who is going to replace her as Editor-In-Chief?

Is Anna Wintour leaving Vogue?
Anna is reported by People, WWD, and other fashion outlets to be retiring from the position of editor-in-chief of American Vogue. Allegedly, Anna told the staff this in a June 2025 meeting, and she will remain Global Chief Content Officer of the institution, which honestly seems like the opposite of retirement.
Who is replacing Anna Wintour at Vogue?
WWD reports that Vogue is still “seeking a new head of editorial content at American Vogue,“ so the next person with designer shoes to fill is completely TBD. I would imagine they’re not exactly taking resumes off Indeed, and someone already within the organization is up for top consideration. Taylor Antrim is currently the deputy editor of US Vogue. Or maybe this is like a GOT/Succession scenario, and Anna’s daughter, Bee, is going to grab the gig? I’d be here for the drama.
Final theory: Edward Enniful stepped down from the also iconic British Vogue in 2023 and was replaced by Chioma Nnandi, the then-editor of US Vogue’s website. So, who is the current editor of US Vogue‘s site? Chloe Malle, the daughter of Candice Bergen. Perhaps it’s her time?
Anna Wintour Vogue Retirement Announcement
Anna has not yet made a formal announcement to the public, either confirming or denying her future transition at Vogue Magazine.
How long has Anna Wintour been the editor-in-chief at Vogue?
Anna first started as EIC in 1988, which means it’s been 37 years. 37 years (!) of anything is a lot, let alone smiling through one of the bitchiest jobs on planet earth.
