Score! 'Running Point' Is Officially Renewed For Season 2

Kate Hudson, Brenda Song, and Max Greenfield starring in a Netflix comedy written and produced by thee Mindy Kaling?? It sounds too good to be true, and yet… it’s true. Thank you, TV gods. The sports comedy series premiered on Netflix on February 27, and it follows Isla Gordon, a newly appointed female president of the Los Angeles Waves basketball team. Isla becomes president of the team when her brother unexpectedly resigns, and she has to “to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice.” Kate stars as Isla, Brenda plays the Waves chief of staff, and Max plays Isla’s fiancé.

Even though the show literally just came out, it’s already a massive hit. Fans are dying to know: Will there be a Running Point season 2? Here’s everything we know about a second season so far.

Is Netflix’s Running Point Coming Back For Another Season?

Yesss!! One week after the series premiere, Netflix announced that we are indeed getting a season 2. In the fun announcement video, Kate says, “A good basketball team owner knows when to listen to the fans. So we hear you, and so did Netflix. Running Point is officially coming back for Season 2!” The actress added, “Thank you so much everyone who watched the show so far! I’m just beyond thrilled because you’re really the reason why we’re able to come back and do another season. So thank you and we’ll see you next season!” No, thank you, queen.

This excellent news is not at all surprising to me. Kate Hudson, Brenda Song and Max Greenfield are truly a dream team, and Mindy Kaling’s comedy series usually do super well. (Never Have I Ever lasted four seasons, and there have been three seasons of The Sex Lives of College Girls so far.) When it comes to comedy shows, the Office queen knows what she’s doing.

Running Point is loosely based on Jeanie Buss, the president of the Los Angeles Lakers, and Jeanie’s an executive producer on the series. In fact, it was her idea in the first place! “She’s in a very serious, stressful job but she loves comedy,” Mindy told AP about Jeanie. “She does not take herself seriously. That’s really rare when someone has that much power and that much to lose.”

Jeanie’s owned the Lakers for over a decade now, and it sounds like her journey in the basketball world could inspire several more juicy and hilarious seasons of Running Point. “She’s had some extremely interesting things happen to her as the president of the Lakers,” Mindy said. “Some of it is she literally dated the coach for many years and she’s like, ‘Do whatever you want.’” (Jeanie had a relationship with former Lakers coach Phil Jackson.)

Get excited for another season!!
