I fear Matt James and his controversial GF, Rachael Kirkconnell, are going their separate ways. Although these Bachelor stars didn’t get engaged like other couples on the show, they dated for four years after meeting on season 25.
Matt announced the shocking news with… a prayer? “Father God, give Rachael and I strength to mend our broken hearts,” the Bachelor star wrote on Instagram. “Give us a peace about this decision to end our relationship that transcends worldly understanding. Shower our friends and family with kindness and love to comfort us. And remind us that our Joy comes from you, Lord 💔.” Oddly, he chose to accompany that caption with a photo of them meeting on The Bachelor.
So, why TF did Matt James and Rachael Kirkconnell break up?? Here’s everything to know about their split so far.
I’m not gonna lie… Something about this is not adding up. Matt was sharing TikToks of their London trip and food adventures just hours before making this ~religious~ Insta announcement. Not to mention, this wasn’t a joint post. Rachael hasn’t shared anything about the breakup yet, and in fact, her most recent Insta post was literally a romantic birthday tribute to Matt. “Happiest of birthdays to my best friend, my teammate, my sous chef, the man that has my whole heart,” she captioned the Dec. 5 tribute video. “You fill it (and my tummy) with so much love and laughter and I’m so thankful I get to dance through this life with you.”
Naturally fans of the former couple are baffled and in denial, and they have some intriguing theories about Matt’s breakup post. “What is happening was he hacked??” one person commented on Rachel’s birthday tribute post. (This seems to be a popular theory.) One TikToker, Olivia Schueller, suggested that this is merely a sneaky prank and Matt and Rachael could be engaged. “What if he is playing around with us right now to say they ended their relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend, but they’re actually engaged?” she mused. Hmm. That would be insanely cruel, but anything’s possible, I suppose.

Unfortunately, Matt turned off the comments on his announcement, so social media detectives can’t theorize there. Honestly, I’m guessing either something super dramatic happened or Matt was hacked. But time will tell!
