Another gorgeous Hollywood couple bites the dust… Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber recently split after three years together, per TMZ. Personally, I think this is excellent news because that age gap was a touch weird. (When they started dating, Kaia was 20 and Austin was 31.) Remember that viral photo of an adult Vanessa Hudgens, Austins’ ex, meeting a tiny little Kaia? So weird.
It seemed like Austin and Kaia were really going strong for a while, traveling around Europe together and attending all kinds of fancy industry events together. So, what could’ve happened? Did Kaia finally get tired of Austin’s Elvis voice? After all, I was tired of it after watching, like, one or two interviews. Or did Austin realize he’s way too old for her? Here’s everything we know so far about why Austin Butler and Kaia Gerber broke up.
According to TMZ, Austin and Kaia split at the end of 2024. The actors have “no bad blood,” per the outlet. Rather, it seems like this is a boring case of ~the spark just faded after all those years together~. They were notably seen apart more and more over the last few months, so I guess this news shouldn’t come as a shock.

The Elvis star and the Saturday Night actress were first linked in December 2021 when they were spotted out and about in Los Angeles, heading to a yoga class together (a classic L.A. activity). Shortly after that, they were seen hanging out several more times, but didn’t make their public debut until March 2022 when they attended W Magazine‘s annual Best Performances party together.
Although they did step out to a bunch of celebrity events together including the 2022 Met Gala, the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, and 2023 Golden Globes, Austin and Kaia didn’t often open up about their relationship in interviews or on social media. During a February 2024 interview with Wall Street Journal, Kaia explained why she and Austin tried to keep their romance private. “Honestly, I feel like so few things in my life are private, and that is one of the things that I try to keep as sacred as possible,” she explained.
In May 2022, Austin was asked about his relationship while chatting with GQ. “I don’t think there’s anything I want to share about that,” he said, bluntly. “But thank you for providing the space.” Yes, thank you, GQ, for holding that space.
I’m guessing it won’t be too long before Austin and Kaia move on with other stunning actors and models.
