Azealia Banks getting herself into a Twitter feud??? Matty Healy being wildly offensive?? It’s almost as if… it’s a day that ends in y! The queen of social media feuds is at it again and she’s taking down the controversial 1975 singer/Taylor Swift ex with her this time. As we know, the “212” rapper expresses many unhinged opinions on the platform — she’s criticized basically everyone but Chappell Roan, who she randomly stans. When Azealia recently took a jab at Charli XCX, Matty decided enough was enough. (Charli is besties with his fiancée, Gabbriette Bechtel.) And so, a beef was born. Things got very messy very quickly, and now, there’s talk of the rapper possibly suing the singer… Let’s unpack the Matty Healy and Azealia Banks feud, shall we?
It all started when Azealia was in the mood to insult Charli and tweeted that that the “360” singer “used to be” pretty. Matty stood up for his pal, writing, “Azealia you seem to have a blind spot when it comes to your ‘reads.’ All the women you attack seem to be culturally relevant, attractive, divisive and NICE people.” He added, “I think this makes you jealous cos you’re so talented but everything else about you is a failure. Just rap bro.” And then, Azealia was super understanding and apologetic. KIDDING, I’m kidding.
Her tweets got more brutal from there. “You both look like you share needles,” she wrote, referring to Matty and Gabbriette. (Mind you, Matty has battled heroin addiction.) In another tweet, Azealia wrote that “a man could slap the shit out of Gabi and you wouldn’t do a damn thing. You’re too busy kissing men on stage for clout.” The 1975 frontman didn’t appreciate that one. In his extremely racist response, he threatened to “fucking slap you so hard I’ll get a Guinness world record for the highest a rat some bitch calls a wig has ever flown.” Someone please take this man’s phone away, immediately.

Following the heated exchange, Matty deleted his tweets and posted a Reddit apology. “What a bad day, I really let myself down,” he wrote, noting that he’s worked “so hard to move past these impulsive self-destructive and honestly quite volatile outbursts I have.” Yes, I’m sure he’s worked so hard on that. The singer added, “I just feel dreadful about how I acted violent.”
It’s possible that Azealia will take legal action, but that’s not confirmed at this point. “He’s been in my DM apologizing and begging me not to sue but I’m fucking tired,” the rapper posted after the argument. “And people are gonna learn some fucking respect.” Shortly after that comment, she tweeted about Matty’s heroin addiction and claimed that Charli XCX has “horrible plastic surgery.”
