What a night! I think I need a few business days to recover from the 2025 BET Awards. The award show, which celebrates Black culture in entertainment, was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles and hosted by Kevin Hart. There was no shortage of joyful, exciting moments, like Leon Thomas winning Best New Artist (loml) and GloRilla eating up her performance of “Let Her Cook” and “Typa.” But the show got pretty heavy at times, too; Jamie Foxx teared up speaking about his recent medical emergency, and Snoop Dogg reflected on listening to Mariah’s music when he was in jail.
One of the most powerful moments of the evening? When Doechii won Best Female Hip Hop Artist (as! she! should!), she used her speech to acknowledge the Los Angeles protests. “We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear,” the “Anxiety” rapper said on stage. “And I hope we stand together, my brothers and my sisters, against hate, and we protest against it.” A-fucking-men.
In addition to watching the award show itself, I was obviously glued to the red carpet, scrutinizing every celeb fit like the fashion professional I definitely am.
