The world is currently a garbage truck dumpster fire, so the internet is going wild with the most outrageous memes possible. I can’t decide if we’ve reached the highest tier of consciousness or the lowest, and by that, I am most certainly talking about the “Solo Polyamorous Hijabi Amputee” meme. Yeah, I just said all of those words in a singular sentence, and I am a queer lefty Dutch woman. From “Women in Male Fields” to the Rizzler’s Father, this is a beautiful time to be online and not outdoors. Here’s a professional (and non-problematic, I swear!!) guide to the “Solo Polyamorous Hijabi Amputee” meme. Respect and kisses to all of these queens.
What is the “Solo Polyamorous Hijabi Amputee” meme?
— Carlos That Notices Things (@QuetzalPhoenix) November 16, 2024
Buckle up for a wild ride, kiddos.
The artwork was first posted on Instagram in September 2020 by a BIPOC polyamory advocate, @MarjaniLane. The image intended to explain what “solo poly” means, using a stock image drawing of a disabled woman wearing a hijab and a prosthetic running leg beside the text. It garnered about 2,300 likes over the last four years. Decent, decent.
For some inexplicable reason, the post resurfaced in November 2024, because the internet be like that. It was first shared by user @QuetzalPhoenix on Twitter, and gained 28 million views and 3,500 likes in three days. The image gained traction as boring people were calling it “woke,” while interesting people saw the opportunity for a CLASSIC meme. Ugh, I love the internet, sorry mental health.
What does the “Solo Polyamorous Hijabi Amputee” meme MEAN though?
One of the first examples of the meme was posted by user @glitter_gutss on November 17th. They retweeted the image with the text, “When I’m in a woke competition, and my opponent is a black polyamorous hijabi amputee.” The tweet received about 12 million views and 317,000 likes in just two days.
It didn’t stop there; from there, the image got better and truly memeified. But what does it mean? Well, it encompasses extreme wokeness. But don’t worry, I haven’t gone over to the dark side. It’s more like a parody of anti-liberals hating on wokeness if you catch my drift. It’s a meme of how people react to such things rather than reacting to the diversity inclusion itself. The user @glitter_gutss even specified this in an additional tweet, writing, “Everyone in the quotes calling me a right winger like this wasn’t obviously mocking how right-wingers use ‘woke’…”
A meme of a meme, if you will, and not any hatred to people of the solo polyamorous hijabi amputee community. But yeah, try explaining that to your Republican grandma.
But is she a “Solo Polyamorous Hijabi Amputee?”
Enough foreplay; let’s get down to business and memes already!! Here are some of the best examples of the “Solo Polyamorous Hijabi Amputee” meme.
What’s worse than meal prep?

Indeed, in our hyper-individualistic capitalist society, little more could be worse than meal prep. Except perhaps a stock image that captures every individualistic detail about a person and then assigns them to be solo poly, too!!
Step aside, workout bros

Tough men in the gym? Nah, try being a solo polyamorous hijabi amputee for a single day. Or better yet, try having them (pronouns not yet specified) on your timeline and then trying to explain it to people. Come on, I’m waiting.

This is another hit tweet by our glitter girlie. This time, it’s short and sweet, like sex with your significant other.
I am too online
Knowing what every syllable of this means .. I am too online I am not employed enough.. not locked in enough pic.twitter.com/398IAFOOda

Okay, this is two memes in one, kinda like how your ex gave you an STD and trauma! (Too far? Sorry, I was raised in a turbulent household and don’t know boundaries). So the original has got all the woke checkboxes, like Charli XCX, epilepsy square, holding space for defying gravity, and of course, our queen. The worst part is, just like @grovymango, I understand this meme ALL TOO WELL. (P.S. the original TikTok is by @beyoncespamacc0unt)

Whatever this film is, I want to watch it immediately while tripping balls. Also this meme has reached the Swiftie chat, which I LOVE so much. An icon is born. Could this be an Easter egg for Reputation (Taylor’s Version)??

Literally, I can’t say it better than the comment by @katt.kenney, “Employment fears me.” I can’t keep telling people I have a real job when I understand every layer of this meme.
