The girls are fighting and by “the girls” I mean Maks Chmerkovskiy and Jan Ravnik from Dancing with the Stars. Maks was a pro on the show from 2008 to 2017, and Jan is a newbie pro who joined DWTS after his casual little gig as a backup dancer on Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour. (The casting people clearly saw all those viral TikToks of Swifties obsessing over Jan.)
Evidently, Maks has some very strong opinions about Jan joining the show. The former DWTS star and his wife, Peta, threw major shade at the Eras Tour dancer during a recent episode of Peta’s podcast, The Penthouse With Peta. They slammed Jan for not being a ~legit~ ballroom dancer and said he doesn’t belong on the show. While Jan has yet to share a response statement, his celeb partner, Jen Affleck, was quick to defend him on TikTok.

During the October 24 episode of Peta’s podcast, Maks and Peta did not hold back while sharing thoughts about Jan’s casting. “I’m sorry, Jan has absolutely no business being a pro on Dancing with the Stars,” Maks said. “There’s zero foundation technique, quality, understanding of the partnership. Bro, I’m getting emotional. It is absurd, and this is unreal how blind we have to be and God forbid say what’s obviously there.”
Speaking about Jan and Jen’s Wicked performance, Maks added, “He had no idea what foxtrot is supposed to look like. How are you going to expect him to teach it and deliver that message in a format that is completely different from even ballroom dancing? We had this criticism weeks ago, and I’m like, ‘Bro is anybody going to explain it to him?'”
Peta chimed in, saying she feels bad for Jen because the Secret Lives of Mormon Wives star is “not getting taught the basics that she needs to.” The podcast host added, “He’s a Taylor Swift dancer. It’s the obvious reason why he is hired. Apart from that, he’s a lovely guy. He looks great. He obviously is a great dancer.”

“Hiring a non-ballroom dancer to teach ballroom dancing to a celebrity as a job is outrageous,” she emphasized.
Hmm. IDK, I feel like the Eras Tour is more impressive than both DWTS and podcasting, so Maks and his wife sound kind of lame bashing this innocent man. Then again, I know zilch about ballroom dancing aside from the fact that I enjoy watching Dylan Efron do it.
