Explaining What Really Went Down Between Hannah Berner And Kyle Cooke

Eons before Lexi and Bailee were added to the mix to infiltrate the Summer House with the younger generation (not me crying in 30-year-old), a different sheriff entered town to send the boys (and audience) into a spiral. The same year that one-liner wonder Paige DeSorbo joined the cast of the Bravo series, her best friend Hannah Berner decided to grace the Hamptons with her comedic presence, too. Hannah had a very colorful, shall we say, run on Summer House, with her biggest drama involving the OG blond Midwest hottie (sorry, West), Luke from Montana.

But don’t let Hannah’s back-and-forth with Luke (which got pretty nasty at the end) distract you from the fact that she also had major beef with Kyle before she left Summer House. In fact, in 2024, Hannah implied on a podcast that her beef with Kymanda was part of the reason she didn’t return. Naturally, this incensed the Cookey Monster into rage-texting Paige, which was all captured during a season 9 episode of SH. What happened between Hannah Berner and Kyle Cooke? Let’s reminisce on the bad old days, shall we?

Hannah Berner And Kyle Cooke Drama Explained

Kyle and Hannah clashed from pretty much day one because Hannah took issue with Kyle being the de facto ruler of the Summer House three seasons in. Kyle’s ego rubbed Hannah the wrong way, as she expressed on numerous occasions, which makes sense since two egos that size needed a much bigger space than their mansion in the Hamptons to co-exist.

In season 4, episode 1, Kyle and Amanda brought up the “sensitive subject” of how poorly their wedding planning was going, and instead of listening, Paige and Hannah started laughing. Kyle popped off at the “giggly squad over here,” which I’m sure Hannah and Paige look back at fondly now, considering that’s how they came up with their podcast name. But at the time, Kyle’s insistence that one person should speak at a time struck Hannah as not very girl power.

In season 5, Kyle, Hannah and Paige got into again several times because Kyle wanted to the girls to clean more (this was long before being a Bed Bug who didn’t contribute to house maintenance was considered cool by the Giggly stans). The “power struggle” (Hannah’s words) only got worse between Hannah and Kyle as Hannah’s “laziness” (Kyle’s words) continued to PHO. Before the season was over, Hannah was uninvited from Kymanda’s wedding due to her open disdain for the groom. I mean, duh, right?

Wrong, Hannah was shooketh since she was still cool with Amanda. The beef came to a head when Kyle pulled Hannah for a v heated one-on-one. By the end of the conversation Hannah felt Kyle was “sitting there like [her] dad” telling her “all these things she’s done wrong” and then in the next breath stormed off, yelling Kyle should never bring up her family again (which he technically didn’t, but who’s counting? Not saying he’s a saint…).

As a last hurrah, Hannah invited her future husband, Des (who the internet immediately clocked looks alarmingly similar to Kyle, but that’s a task for Freud) to the house. The brand new couple spent the day “ejaculating, spreading seeds, consummating” (again, Hannah’s words!) all over the house, including in Kyle and Amanda’s bathroom behind their back, which Hannah denied after the episode aired, with her confirming it to Paige in the hot tub. Hey, if the bridge is going to be burned, might as well torch it, right?

Did Kyle get Hannah fired from Summer House?

Hannah implied that her situation with Kyle was a factor in her firing from the show during an appearance on The BFFs Pod in July 2024. Dave Portnoy asked Hannah point blank if she got fired for “sponsoring a rival seltzer drink.” Hannah responded “wow, Dave is on his shit” before explaining that an ad Hannah innocently did for Truly was the real source of Kyle’s anger towards her as the founder of Loverboy. Hannah told the podcast, “Bravo didn’t fire me,” and that the show became “fighting over egos and screentime.”

Hannah added it wasn’t just the seltzer situation but “layers and layers” of egos at play that ultimately led “people” to tell her they didn’t want her in the friend group. Kyle publicly commented he was “flattered” that Hannah thought he had “that kind of pull,” but had a lot more to add over text to Paige, apparently.

Some dedicated Bravo heads on IG and Reddit have managed to transcribe the blurry screenshots of texts from Kyle to Paige flashed in the Summer House episode 3 teaser. In addition to ranting about Craig, Kyle brings up that Hannah recently spread cheating rumors about him on a July 9 episode of Call Her Daddy (two days after the BFF Pod episode dropped).

Kyle wrote that Hannah got booted from Bravo because the audience was obviously no longer feeling the Bern, and he dropped the name of an audience analytics employee at NBC to prove it (not because of anything Loverboy-related).

At some point later, Kyle circled back on his word vomit with an apology for “barraging” Paige because he was “heated in the moment.” According to the screenshots, he admits he’s been deep in the dog house with Amanda for the “spritz stuff,” AKA his beverage beef with Craig. Yikes!
