A Refresher On The Bonkers Ending Of 'Ginny & Georgia' Season 2

Your favorite chaotic mother-daughter duo is coming back. Ginny & Georgia is returning to Netflix for a third season of unhinged murder plots and soapy teen drama. Seriously, this show is like a bizarro world Gilmore Girls where the mom gets arrested in the middle of her wedding. Yep, that’s an actual thing that happened in the second season. If you’re feeling a little lost, don’t worry. Here’s your refresher on how Ginny & Georgia season 2 ended.

Season 2 came out on Netflix all the way back in January 2023, so it’s definitely been a minute. To recap: Georgia (Brianne Howey) is a young mom who’s bounced around the country for years with her kids Ginny (Antonia Gentry) and Austin (Diesel La Torraca). In season 2, it looked like Georgia was finally settling down with her wedding to Mayor Paul (Scott Porter). But, Georgia is who she is, and that sense of calm couldn’t last too long, especially after Austin’s dad Gil (Aaron Ashmore) shows up in town.

“Nothing is ever super simple on our show,” series creator Sarah Lampert told TODAY. “When Gil comes up and kind of presses all of her buttons and triggers her and puts her back in that emotional mind space of her most traumatized self, we do see that character break down a little bit.”

Read on for the full recap of Ginny’s breakdown and the rest of the fallout from the end of Ginny & Georgia season 2.

What Happened At The End Of Ginny & Georgia Season 2?

At the end of Ginny & Georgia season 2, Ginny and her boyfriend Marcus (Felix Mallard) broke up while Marcus dealt with his depression. Ginny was upset, but she honestly had other things to deal with, like discovering the truth that her mom Georgia murdered her late husband Kenny.

On top of that discovery, there’s also the possibility that Austin is taking after their mom and her violent tendencies. When Gil showed up and started threatening Georgia, Austin came to his mom’s rescue by shooting Gil. Sweet that Austin wanted to protect his mom, but guns are never the answer, especially when they’re used by a literal child. Ginny, Georgia, and Gil all worked to cover up the shooting because nobody wanted to see Austin get in trouble, and things seem okay there, at least for now…

Perhaps the biggest moment of the season, though, was when Georgia carried out another murder. This time, she suffocated and killed her friend Cynthia’s (Sabrina Grdevich) comatose husband Tom. She did it to help Cynthia, but still, a murder’s a murder. And Georgia learned that the hard way when the cops showed up in the middle of her first dance with Paul at their wedding. They were there to arrest her for Tom’s murder, and Ginny and Austin were left to watch her get driven away in a police car.

When Does Ginny & Georgia Season 3 Come Out?

After all that drama from season 2, audiences were really left hanging for over two years. Luckily, the wait is almost over. Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia releases on Netflix on June 5.
