Why You Should Ditch Dinner and Host A Friendsgiving Brunch Instead

In partnership with Truly.

Oh great, it’s that time of year when we all pretend to love a potluck! Just kidding (sort of). I get that some people genuinely enjoy cooking and bringing their loved ones together around the table. But when it comes to hosting Friendsgiving, I can’t help but wish there were an easier way to make it happen. Now that I’m an adult, I finally understand why Monica was always so stressed in those Thanksgiving episodes of Friends. Pulling off a feast like that takes far too much prep and effort.

This year I’m proposing a truly revolutionary concept: Friendsgiving Brunch. Yep, we’re adopting everyone’s favorite meal for this fake holiday, and there’s nothing you can do about it. For anyone who’s on the fence, I’ve listed out the reasons below why you should consider giving this a shot with your friend group this year. So ditch your dry turkey and fire up your toaster, because once you enjoy a Friendsgiving Brunch, you won’t want to go back.

Syrup Over Gravy

Let’s be real – most of us only enjoy Thanksgiving food on Thanksgiving. So why are we forcing ourselves to sit through another dinner of mediocre dishes when we could be housing a delicious brunch? I mean, do you really think your friend Jessica, who orders takeout for every meal, can whip up a pumpkin pie? Your friends will never make a meal better than your mom’s, so there’s no point in trying. Luckily, brunch is pretty foolproof. I’d much rather pile my plate with crispy hash browns instead of boring mashed potatoes, drench everything in syrup instead of cranberry sauce, and would obviously choose bacon over turkey any day. Plus, Jessica can totally handle making some scrambled eggs…right?

Seltzers Over Wine

A heavy meal at night with a side of wine usually means you’re dozing off on the couch while your “alternative” friend makes you suffer through a marathon of random music videos on YouTube. Brunch has a completely different vibe. Daytime hangouts keep the energy up so you can actually enjoy some drinks and time spent with friends. And when you’ve got a big group of friends, you can’t go wrong with the limited edition Brunch Pack from Truly. It features four delicious fall flavors including Rosé, Orange Mimosa, Cran Sangria, and Peach Bellini – so there’s something for everyone. Switch it up or stick to your faves all day long. Either way it’s Truly the perfect way to keep the brunch vibes going.

Casual Over Formal

Thanksgiving tends to feel kind of formal, so it’s no surprise that Friendsgiving dinner can have that same energy. But honestly, Friendsgiving should be a welcome break from all your awkward family discussions around the dinner table – a chill vibe where you don’t have to dodge political debates or explain to your weird uncle why you’re still single. And you should never have to squeeze into tights and a dress when sweats are the obvious choice for a huge meal. Brunch is the ultimate safe space. There’s just something about cracking open a drink over pancakes that makes you feel like spilling all your secrets and laughing about family drama. That’s what the spirit of Friendsgiving is all about.
