Dakota Johnson Is "Always Psyched" To Film Sex Scenes

The Materialists press tour has simply been the gift that keeps on giving. Dakota has blessed us with a clip of her trying to get her co-stars, Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans, to kiss. She also admitted she doesn’t know who Edward Cullen and Jacob Black are, despite having starred in the biggest Twilight fan fiction, Fifty Shades of Grey. To top it all off, Dakota happily shared how she once sent a friend’s ex a bunch of gorilla poop in the mail

Dakota Johnson is the queen of keeping it real. There isn’t an interview question posed to her that she won’t meet with deadpan honesty and a touch of chaos. So, of course, when she was asked a few questions about filming sex scenes on the June 10 episode of Good Hang With Amy Poehler, her answers were absolutely perfect.

Here are the lowkey inspiring quotes Dakota Johnson said about sex scenes.

During Dakota’s interview on Amy Poehler’s podcast, Amy asked Dakota how she prepares to have fake sex for her movie roles. Dakota joked: “I don’t have to. I’m, like, always psyched up for sex.”

Amy was all for it, and then Dakota asked, “‘Psyched up?’ Is that a thing? Let’s go to pound town?” Dakota Johnson saying the words “pound town” during a professional interview is not something I knew I needed, and yet here we are.

Then, Dakota got a little more serious and talked about the emotional and physical work she puts in before doing a sex scene. “First, it depends on who the character is and who the character’s supposed to be to the audience,” she said. “Is she like a super idolized hot girl? Is she a housewife? Is she lonely? Is she scared? Is she conservative?”

She added, “Certain prep would go into it. I want to feel good in my body if I’m showing my body.”

No matter what, Dakota seems really comfortable with sex, which is a great outlook. She credits that perspective to her mom, actress Melanie Griffith. “My mom raised me to be really proud of my body and love my body,” Dakota said. “So I’ve always felt so grateful for that, especially in my work, because I can use it, and it feels real. She was very honest and open about body stuff — like getting my period. She also talked to me about sex and how precious and important it is.”

One thing that’s made Dakota’s sex scenes at work even better lately is the introduction of an intimacy coordinator. “I recently did a movie a few months ago, and we had an intimacy coordinator on set, and it was the first time I’ve ever worked with one. And she was really great. It was so cool because I’m so used to just, you know, likeIt’s a sex scene. It’s not sexy. It doesn’t feel good.” Wild to think that Dakota made three Fifty Shades movies without an intimacy coordinator even glancing in her direction, but it was another era, I guess!
