Gimme Gimme… the Britney Spears movie, immediately. Last summer, Universal announced that the pop icon’s bestselling 2023 memoir, The Woman In Me, is being developed as a biopic film. And the director is none other than my Wicked king, Jon Chu! It’s still very early in the process, but one thing’s for sure: Britney is playing a key role in the filmmaking process, thank god. “She will be very involved in this,” Jon confirmed to Entertainment Tonight in January.

The director also admitted that he’s “seen all the fan casting” and actually uses it for inspo. Keep at it, ladies! “I always take that into consideration because maybe there’s a good idea out there we’ll have to see,” he said. “We’ll have to see what the approach of the movie is because we know who is right for it but I’m open for anything.”

Here are all the celebs who might play Britney Spears in The Woman In Me biopic movie. (And before the Tater tots come for me: Tate has already said that she literally doesn’t act, so she wouldn’t play the role.)

Millie Bobby Brown

It seems like Millie is low-key campaigning for the role. (I don’t think the blond hair is a coincidence.) Back in 2022, she expressed that she wants to play Britney during an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show. “I want to play a real person and I think for me, Britney … It would be Britney Spears,” Millie told Drew at the time. She explained that the singer’s story “resonates” with her.

The Stranger Things star added, “Just growing up in the public eye watching her videos, watching interviews of how when she was younger … I don’t know her, but when I look at pictures of her, I feel like I could tell her story in the right way and hers only.”

More recently, the actress confirmed to Access Hollywood that she’s still very interested in playing the pop queen. “I mean, she is an absolute icon,” Millie said at the February premiere of her movie, The Electric State. “I would love nothing more than to be a part of her story. But that’s her story, and I am in full support of her bringing her story to life how she wants to.”

Selena Gomez

In January, an insider told Life & Style that Selena is one of Britney’s top choices to play her in the movie. “She’s someone Britney loves as a person and as an artist, she thinks she’s mighty talented and knows she’d also have her own history as a child star to draw on, which would make things easier,” the source claimed. As a Selenator, I would have no qualms with this casting choice. (According to this insider, Natalie Portman is Britney’s other top choice, but considering the actress and the pop icon are exactly the same age, I’m not sure how Natalie would play a young Britney.)

Olivia Holt

There’s another Disney queen in the mix! In February, the Kickin’ It alum told Variety that she would be “so honored to play Britney,” but hasn’t heard anything from the director (yet). “I’m just so grateful to be in the running and around so many names and talent who are in the running for it,” the actress and singer added. “Just the idea that I am on people’s minds to play something as iconic as this, would be a dream.” I would be very surprised if she got the role, TBH, but love the enthusiasm.

Emma Roberts

Emma got a special shoutout from Felicia Culotta, Britney’s former assistant. Apparently, Felicia’s convinced that Emma’s the gal for the job. Emma’s obviously very thrilled about that. “I was like, ‘I love her assistant,'” the American Horror Story star told Cosmopolitan in August 2024. She added, “I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears.” She clarified that she hasn’t gotten the role, but hopes that Felicia’s casting will “maybe come true.”

Addison Rae

Okay, fine… I don’t think she’s actively trying to play Britney. This is just MY dream. That pap walk with Britney’s memoir?? I’d give her the part purely based on those iconic photos.

But Addison reveres Britney and isn’t convinced that anyone can do her justice. “I honestly don’t think anyone deserves to play her,” she told iHeart Radio’s The Hit List in November 2024. Addison called Britney an “enigma” and an “icon,” and added, “I think she really, really created something that is untouchable and so in its own lane that nobody will ever truly be able to replicate what she did for music, and even the entertainment industry.”

“I support anything and everything that Britney Spears ever wants to do in her life and career, and I think she’ll have the best opinion on who she thinks that should be,” Addison said. Yeah, so this is the answer of someone who deserves the role…
