It’s gotta be hard dating when you’re a celebrity in the public eye, and even harder when you date a co-star. There’s this weird blurry line between what’s real and what’s fake. For Madelyn Cline, who dated her Outer Banks co-star Chase Stokes and broke up with him in November 2021, the whole thing was a little bit of a “mind fuck.”
“I think at the time I didn’t realize what the repercussions [were] of inviting so many people into something — let’s be honest — something that’s intimate,” Madelyn said during the March 19 episode of Therapuss with Jake Shane. “I was just so in love. And, you know, people loved it. I think they loved it because of us, but they also loved [Outer Banks characters] John B. and Sarah, first and foremost.”
Because of all that attention around her romances, both real and fictional, Madelyn said she’s had a difficult time finding herself. “Figuring that out and who you are in the public space just is truly such a mind fuck,” she said on the podcast. I feel you, Madelyn, and I don’t have to deal with millions of eyes on me.
Since her breakup with Chase, Madelyn’s moved on. She’s gonna be in the I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel, and she’s been rumored to have had flings with stars like Charles Melton and Austin Butler. Madelyn squashed the Charles Melton rumors and there’s still a big question mark on the Austin Butler situation. But, let’s dig into what we do know about Madelyn Cline’s dating history.

Madelyn and Chase met when they first started working on Netflix’s Outer Banks together in 2019. Then, in 2020, they became Instagram official with a post on Chase’s Instagram. He captioned it: “Cats outta the bag ❤️.” But, they called it quits in late 2021.
After her breakup with Chase, Madelyn was rumored to be dating actor Ross Butler. She also was seen with DJ Zack Bia. But, her next official relationship was with North of Nine lead singer Jackson Guthy. They’d been seen together in 2022, and then in a December 2022 profile in The Cut, Madelyn confirmed she had a boyfriend. That same month, Jackson posted on Instagram for Madelyn’s birthday. But, by July 2023, Madelyn unfollowed Jackson on IG, sparking breakup rumors.

And then, of course, there’s Pete. In September 2023, they were spotted getting breakfast together in Beverly Hills and she went to see him perform in Las Vegas. They were together in public a bunch until 2024. Madelyn told NYLON the breakup happened in early 2024, and “the jokes write themselves” about dating someone like Pete with such a famous relationship resume. It seems like after all that, Madelyn is laying low when it comes to her love life.
