It’s been a pretty rough year for Katy Perry. In September, she released 143, which was, well, a commercial disappointment. Her Lifetimes Tour hasn’t exactly received glowing reviews either, and in April, she faced intense backlash for joining Jeff Bezos’ controversial Blue Origin space flight — critics slammed the trip as wasteful and out of touch. Apparently, all this criticism is starting to affect her personal life: Multiple outlets recently reported that the ongoing scrutiny is causing “tension” between the pop star and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom. And on June 24, a source told TMZ that Orlando is preparing to make his “debut as a single man” at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s upcoming wedding. (Katy is notably not attending the wedding.)
The “Teenage Dream” singer and the Lord of the Rings actor have been together since 2016 and engaged since 2019. They share a daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom. Did Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom actually break up after nine years together? Let’s break down these split rumors.
An insider told People that Katy and Orlando’s problems began in September after fans and critics alike roasted Katy’s 143 album. “Katy was deeply frustrated following the reception of her new album,” the source said. “It made her very stressed. Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension.”(Pitchfork‘s review kills me: “143 is a spectacular flop, but it’s a strange one — like one of those restaurants that look nice and have an expensive menu but serve food so mid as to be insulting. It’s worse than awful.”)

Their relationship issues only got worse when Katy went on the Lifetimes Tour, and they started spending more and more time apart. A second source noted, “She was also disappointed in some of the tour reviews. It’s put stress on their relationship.”
Katy and Orlando have been engaged for six years now, which could be a key issue… An insider told Us Weekly on June 10 that they “never set a date for the wedding or got around to planning anything.” That’s not a great sign. The source claimed, “They have been spending more and more time apart. They’ve grown apart and aren’t living the same lives anymore.” And according to another insider, “everyone around them knows” that they’ve been having issues for a long time now.
Despite all these reports of tension, Orlando was there to support Katy when she went on her (ludicrous) Jeff Bezos space flight, and they’re still liking each other’s Insta posts. Also, Orlando was just photographed in Perth, Australia (where Katy’s doing shows right now). Although he wasn’t seen with Katy, it seems likely he’s in the city to support her.
