Rebel Wilson & Anna Camp Talk 'Bride Hard' Best Moments, Scary Stunt Accident, And Reuniting 13 Years After 'Pitch Perfect'

No you’re not dreaming: Pitch Perfect legends Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp have officially reunited to make more cinematic history together. Name a more iconic duo! The witty (and vocally gifted) blondes are so back with their new action-packed comedy, Bride Hard, hitting theaters on June 20. In this Bridesmaids x Get Smart vibes adventure, Rebel stars as Sam, the maid of honor, at her bestie Betsy’s (played by Anna) wedding. The twist? Rebel’s actually a world-class secret agent, and when armed mercenaries crash the ceremony, she’s forced to blow her cover and save the day. You know, as one does.

In an exclusive interview with Betches, Rebel and Anna dished on the super high highs and extremely low lows of filming the new movie. They opened up about Rebel’s terrifying stunt accident (which she says almost left her “permanently distorted”!) and a sweet moment that reminded them of their Pitch Perfect days. Read on to see everything Rebel Wilson and Anna Camp shared about their epic Bride Hard reunion!

BETCHES: So, how did you find out that you were working together again, and how did you react to that news?

Rebel: I think I’d been cast in the movie as Sam, and then we’re like, “Okay, so we need to cast the girls.” And then I was like, “Anna Camp would be incredible.” But because she’s so versatile as an actress, she could have played any of the roles, the best friend or the funny one. You could have done any of the supporting roles.

Anna: That’s so, so sweet.

Rebel: But then I guess we made the right decision and that we may as well play besties.

Anna: I read the script and I was like, “Oh, I think that our dynamic would be the best if we were best friends, and then we could have the riff happen in the middle of the movie and then come back together, obviously in the end.” So that was the part that I was the most excited for and I’m so glad that we got to do it.

Rebel: It was so good because honestly, it’s just not work when you’re in scenes with her, it’s just fun.

That totally shines through on screen. I heard you had a pretty serious stunt work accident, Rebel… What happened?

Rebel: I did. So, I trained for five weeks to do the action sequences in the film. I mean, Anna and I are in the big end set piece as well, which is on a moving hovercraft, which is quite dangerous.

But I had an accident, and weirdly, it was shooting the opening fight, but we shot that on the very last night. So it’s 3:00 a.m in the morning. I’m doing a struggle with a stunt man who’s holding a gun, and we do it the first time for rehearsal, and the gun accidentally falls three floors below. So they reset it with a hard plastic gun.

Anna: It was like a rubber, hard gun.

Rebel: Yeah, one we were supposed to be using was soft. And then in the struggle it… It was a pure complete accident… It just cut my nose open. So I ended the shoot in a pool of blood, crying, because I’m not that tough.

Anna: It was scary.

Rebel: The amount of blood was insane. And then my stunt double’s there, and she’s like, “It’s all right; when there’s a face injury, there always is a lot of blood.” And then I was in the ambulance. They had to call a plastic surgeon because if a regular doctor had done it, my face could have actually been distorted for life. It really hurt. It was like somebody getting a gun and just whacking it accidentally across your face. That kind of pain.

Oh my gosh, that sounds so scary. I’m glad you’re okay. On a different note, what was your favorite moment from filming?

Rebel: Anna leads a dance, a bridesmaids dance. And I’m not in that sequence really. And I loved watching them sing and dance because it reminded me of Pitch Perfect when I would just sit watching Anna sing and dance

Anna: Oh, that’s really sweet.

Rebel: So that was my favorite scene I like watching of you.

Anna: My favorite scene to shoot, I think was when I was drunk and Rebel comes back in and I’m mad at her for skipping out on the Bachelorette party.

Rebel: You were doing good drunk. Were you actually drunk?

Anna: I was wasted. No, of course not. I’ve been trained. I’m a trained actor.

Rebel: Yeah, you were pretty drunk in that scene.

Anna: I was pretty drunk in that scene, but that was really fun to have everybody around and then to have you holding my hair back… Yeah, I liked that. That was fun.

Check out Bride Hard in theaters starting June 20.
