Demi Lovato's Body Positive Post Is Exactly What We Needed

These days, it can seem like everyone on the internet is Photoshopping the sh*t out of their photos. I mean, we literally roast people for their Photoshop fails every single week. But while we’re battling a Facetune epidemic, we’re also getting a little better about being body positive, and embracing who we really are. It’s not always easy, but you have to start somewhere, and Demi Lovato’s body positive post from Thursday night was a big step in the right direction.

This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited. And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!! I’m just literally sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me. This is what I got. I want this new chapter in my life to be about being authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards. So here’s me, unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day. It’s such a great feeling to be back in tv/film while not stressing myself with a strenuous workout schedule before 14 hour days, or depriving myself from a real birthday cake rather than opting for watermelon & whip cream with candles because I was terrified of REAL cake and was miserable on some crazy diet shit. Anyway, here’s me, RAW, REAL! And I love me. And you should love you too! Now back to the studio.. I’m working on an anthem.. ??????‍♀️ also. Just so everyone’s clear.. I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too. ? #nationalcelulliteday #celluLIT ???

Demi obviously looks amazing, cellulite and all, and her caption about facing her fear and moving past other people’s standards is seriously empowering. Demi Lovato has been through some gigantic struggles in her life, so it’s powerful to see her fighting through the noise to get to a more positive place. She says she’s in the studio working on an anthem, and if it’s inspired by this post, I have a feeling it’s going to be epic.

We weren’t the only ones who loved Demi’s post, and tons of celebrities flooded the comments with some much-deserved love. We already talked about Mike Johnson’s flirty comment, but here are some of the other ones that we loved:

Scooter Braun

Not everyone in Hollywood is the biggest fan of Scooter Braun (*cough* Taylor Swift), but you can’t deny that he goes hard for the artists on his team. This is a really sweet comment, it sounds like exactly what Demi needs to hear. Scooter might not be perfect, but at least he’s being supportive AF to Demi.

Hailey Bieber & Ruby Rose

Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato have known each other for a long time, and now that they’re both on team Scooter, it makes sense that Demi and Hailey are friends. There aren’t enough fire emojis in the world for this picture, so I’m glad Hailey said it. Oh, and Ruby Rose is an icon at all times, so she had to be included.

Ashley Graham

Ashley Graham is one of the most famous plus-size models, so she’s no stranger to spreading body positivity. She’s currently pregnant with her first child, so I’m sure she can relate with Demi’s message about wanting to pass on her strength to her child someday.

Debby Ryan & Megan Mullally

Debby Ryan is literally all of us in this moment. Like thanks Demi, also you’re f*cking smoking hot. Relatable. Oh, and I just want Megan Mullally to adopt me, so I’m glad we feel the same way bout Demi.

Ronda Rousey

Ronda Rousey is one of the most famous female athletes, and at the height of her MMA career, she was damn near invincible. It’s great to see one strong woman shouting out another, and I don’t disagree with her. There’s nothing wrong with a little editing, but Demi looks great without it.

Basically, Demi Lovato is our newest body positive icon, and it’s so great to see everyone celebrating her bravery on her post. Hopefully more celebs will follow suit and face their fears with some unedited photos. Until then, we’ll probably have plenty more Photoshop fails to get through.
