I can respect playing hard to get, but Ben Stiller really kept us thirsty after Severance season 1, didn’t he? Oh well, bygones are bygones since, at long last, the second season premiere has arrived. With a brand new chapter opened for Lumon’s most problematic employees, brand new fan theories are filling the internet at a record pace. That’s what happens when one of the most popular ooky-spooky shows doles out its episodes one week at a time. I’m pretty obsessed with figuring out WTF happened to Mark’s wife Gemma and if Harmony Cobel is going to make everyone pay. (If you’re curious too, check out what thee Patricia Arquette told me about it.) But I’m still making time for the other loose ends keeping me up at night. Grab your shovel, I’m digging into the fan theories about Helly R. in Severance season 2.
Severance Season 2 Theories About Helly R.
When severed Helly R. reenters the Lumon floor five months (supposedly) after she caused a scene at her daddy’s fancy gala, she acts very suspiciously to her other innies. While Dylan, Mark, and Irving are eager to share what they saw when they were awakened in their outie’s home, Helly R. is weirdly quiet with her gang, which Irving notices is not like her usual firecracker self. Helly lies about her outie being a homely little nobody, which, of course, is not the case. Helena is the heiress to the Lumon throne, who voluntarily joined the severed floor to prove to the world that severed employees have a perfectly ethical existence (lol, that plan flopped).
Is Helly R. being impersonated by her outie?
At first glance, it seemed obvious that Helly R. was just too embarrassed to tell her comrades in arms that she was a part of the very system they worked so hard to take down. But now the episode is marinating, and the internet superfans are questioning: Is Helly hiding something much bigger? Like the fact that maybe she isn’t even Helly anymore — has Helena Egan infiltrated the severed floor?
Or, has Helena and Helly R. been reintegrated?
Some Redditors even think Lumon has gone as far as to reintegrate Helena into one being, effectively killing Helly R., which is the ominous offer Mr. Milchik also gave the four heroes. Personally, I think when you’re healthcare royalty, you wouldn’t want to rub elbows with the plebs. But Lumon is wildly devious, so anything is possible. I just hope Helly R., if she is missing, isn’t gone forever. That’s my bitch!
