Gonna Vomit: Lucy And Stephen Might Be Getting Back Together In 'Tell Me Lies'

Hulu, you are gonna need to start paying for my therapy bills immediately, because what the actual fuck was season 2 episode 7 of Tell Me Lies?? My heart is in agony after seeing Wrigley break down in front of Pippa like that and open up about his experience with depression. I just wanna give the gentle giant a hug and tell him it’s gonna be okay. And someone in this fictional universe needs to check on Bree, stat! Why did she think it was a sound choice to fuck her professor’s husband at the professor’s house while she was there? Why in god’s name did she leave her earrings there for her professor to find? But most of all, we urgently need to discuss Lucy’s apparent amnesia, because surely, that’s the only possible explanation for her considering getting back together with Stephen. She would have to totally forget about his involvement in Macy’s murder, the fact that he randomly dumped her for Diana, and oh yeah, him sabotaging her entire semester and relationship with Leo, among other things. And yet, it does appear that Lucy and Stephen might be going for round two. Are Lucy and Stephen really getting back together in Tell Me Lies season 2? Here’s what we know so far.

Why Did Stephen And Lucy Break Up?

I know it’s been a while since season 1, but it’s pretty damn hard to forget Stephen and Lucy going to that Hawaiian party together and then Stephen dumping Lucy by leaving the party hand in hand with Diana. She basically says a lot of condescending shit about Lucy at that party and promises Stephen money and opportunities; that’s all it takes to get him back. Lucy, of course, is completely devastated when she sees them leaving together. She gets drunk and winds up hooking up with Evan, who was still with her bestie, Bree, at the time. It’s messy as fuck, so very on brand for the show.

Are Stephen And Lucy Back Together?

I can’t do this, but I think they are… or at least, they’re heading that way. Early in season 2 episode 7, Lucy, Bree, and Pippa are chatting up Lucy’s breakup with Leo, and Lucy has a toxic revelation. “The problem with Leo is he only wanted to see the good stuff about me,” she says. Pippa asks what we’re all thinking… how the fuck is that a problem? Lucy replies that she feels like she’s “gonna disappoint someone with the truth.” She reflects, “That was the one good thing about Stephen. I basically just knew that there was nothing that I could do that would turn him off. Like, I could ask him to do anything and it just wouldn’t freak him out.” OY. We’re remembering the Stephen relationship fondly now?? She adds, “I guess he was the first person I slept with that I could actually tell him what felt good instead of just letting a guy guess.” Uh, okay, but he was probably also the first guy she slept with who’s responsible for a girl’s death.

At the end of the distressing episode, Stephen shows up at Lucy’s door after being absolutely horrible to Diana. “I’m sorry,” he has the audacity to say to her. “I know I fucked everything up.” YA THINK? He asks Lucy, “Do you remember what you said to me after Thanksgiving? That you know all the worst things about me?” She nods. Then, he asks her, “Do you think I am a bad person?” I actually screamed at that one. She bluntly responds “yes.” When Stephen asks her to clarify that she always knew he was a bad person and still loved him, she says “yes” again.

“I think you might be the only person that feels that way about me, not even my family does,” Stephen says with a kind of mania. As Lucy starts to protest, he presses, “This goes both ways. I know all the worst things about you, the shit that nobody else knows, right? And I still… love you. That’s why we don’t work with anyone else.” I screamed again. Lucy’s eyes well up with tears, and she closes the door to her room, implying that they hook up after this conversation.

Of course, we don’t know yet if this is just a hookup or them really getting back together, but I have an awful feeling it’s the latter. Mind you, he hasn’t broken up with Diana yet. I am not well. Not well at all.
