While some people may follow royal families because they regard them highly, I personally like to follow them because I know that with immense wealth and fame comes a ridiculous amount of drama too. And in the world of the Dubai royals, we have not been disappointed. Dubai princess Sheikha Mahra has decided to apparently dump her husband… via Instagram.
In case you missed it, Mahra shared a post (yes, on feed) on her verified Instagram account on Wednesday, July 17, saying, “Dear Husband, As you are occupied with other companions, I hereby declare our divorce.” And then she wrote “I divorce you” three times (I’ll explain why that’s important later). While there’s been no official word on why this divorce happened, just going based off he’s “occupied with other companions,” it’s not hard to take a wild guess. Here’s a full breakdown on this latest royal drama.
Who Is Sheikha Mahra?

In a plot twist worthy of a royal soap opera, Dubai’s very own Sheikha Mahra bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum (try saying that five times fast) has helped us realize that if you should never hesitate to post anything on Instagram. A Dubai princess but a true social media queen. The 30-year-old princess (aka, the job title I wish I had), daughter of Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, decided that Instagram was the perfect platform to apparently divorce from her husband Sheikh Mana bin Mohammed bin Rashin bin Mana Al Maktoum.
Dubai Princess Wedding
But before we get into what all this means, let’s rewind for a sec. The “lovebirds” tied the knot only a year ago, with their engagement announced in March 2023, followed by a lavish wedding reception in Dubai in June of the same year. Everything seemed like a fairytale (princess and all) until… it wasn’t. I mean, just two months ago, the couple welcomed their daughter, with Mahra sharing adorable snaps on Instagram, including one with the caption, “Just the two of us.” I guess she meant that literally.
Triple Talaq Meaning
Now, onto the juicy part: the triple “talaq.” For those not up to date on Islamic practices, to divorce someone religiously, you say, “I divorce you” three times (aka, triple talaq).Which is probably why Sheikha Mahra wrote out, “I divorce you” three times, seemingly meaning she meant business. And if that wasn’t enough, she also signed off her message with, “Your ex-wife.” Sheesh.
Her announcement comes after the princess seemingly wiped all traces of her husband from her Instagram feed — and he seems to have returned the favor. There hasn’t been any comment from any of the royals on the situation yet, nor the London UAE embassy. (Everyone’s probably still just as shook as I am.) Still, we can probably be sure that whatever happens next is going to be just as chaotic — and I am here for it.
