Looking at the 2024 Billboard Music Award nominations, I was nothing short of alarmed. The decisions seemed so ludicrous that I simply could not believe experts in the music industry were behind them — and turns out I was correct about that. Apparently, these awards are literally just determined by performance metrics on the Billboard charts. No experts involved… just The People (and the celebs who release five million different versions of their albums to cheat *cough* Taylor Swift). But I honestly find that even more alarming. It’s like knowing Donald Trump is gonna be president because most American voters voted for him. Okay, it’s not that bad. But it’s still bad. Clearly, sexism remains a huge problem in music listening because the gender split of these nominations does not reflect the reality that the best songs and albums this year came from women. Alleged abuser Zach Bryan and known racist Morgan Wallen being some of the top nominated artists actually makes me wanna throw up. I despise watching villains like them get rewarded over and over again while incredible female artists like Beyoncé and Ariana Grande continue to be overlooked. Sigh. 2025 Billboard Nominations Snubs
Are people okay?? Why the fuck are they listening to Drake over Kendrick Lamar in the year of 2024? Or Morgan Wallen over Chappell Roan? You simply can’t convince me that “Last Night” holds a candle to “Good Luck, Babe!”… I’m deeply concerned about the state of our society. If you ask me, a woman of taste, Beyoncé, Kendrick, Ariana, and Charli XCX were some of the most important artists this year, and yet, they were all massively snubbed. As you can see above, none of these icons made any of the major categories, which is blasphemy.
Charli only made the fringe dance/electronic categories, despite defining the bratty mainstream culture of 2024, and Beyoncé was nominated in a dance/electronic category and a few country categories (yay), but obviously deserves much more. The Ariana disrespect also hurts because Eternal Sunshine is objectively high art. Interestingly, Galinda IRL was nominated for Top Global 200 artist and Top Global (excl. U.S.) 200 artist, so it’s the American Arianators that need to get those streams up. I’m doing my part. And lastly, Kendrick got nominations in rap and streaming categories, but to see Drake in the major categories and not Kendrick is wild. I thought we were all on Team Kendrick? What the fuck happened?
Some of you people need to seriously reevaluate your playlists, and by some of you, I mean straight males.
