I Need 'Task' Season 2 Like Yesterday: Everything We Know About A Potential Second Chapter

If you’re not obsessed with the new Mark Ruffalo HBO crime drama, Task, you’re woefully behind on your TV duties. This is, like, the most exciting cultural event since The Summer I Turned Pretty and The Hunting Wives.

Set in the Philly suburbs, the new series follows an FBI agent named Tom (played by Mark) who’s navigating intense family turmoil while leading a task force investigating robberies against stash houses run by the Dark Hearts motorcycle gang. Mark worked with a real-life retired FBI agent, Scott Duffey, to develop his character. “I learned that the best FBI agents have a lot of empathy,” he told People, also admitting he consumed plenty of Philly cheesesteaks along the way.

The gripping series is just seven episodes long, which is why people are already begging for more. Will there be a Task season 2 or did the season 1 finale wrap things up for good? Here’s what we know about a potential second season, including the release date, cast, and where the story might go next.

Season 1 spoilers ahead!

Task Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot

Will There Be A Task Season 2?

HBO hasn’t renewed the show for another season as of now, but I’m feeling hopeful. In an interview earlier this month, show creator Brad Ingelsby told Esquire that he’d “love to have a chance to do another season of Task.” While there are no concrete plans for more episodes yet, he shared: “If people respond to Task and keep responding to Task, I’d love to tell more stories about this place, because I love writing about this place. I do feel like I have more stories to tell.” Based on my TikTok FYP and group chats, I’d say people are definitely “responding” to the show!

Season 1 ended roughly 30 seconds ago, so there’s still plenty of time for HBO to make the right decision here.

Task Season 2 Cast

If the show does come back, I’m assuming the season 2 cast would include: Mark Ruffalo (Tom), Thuso Mbedu (Aleah), Emilia Jones (Maeve), Fabien Frankel (Anthony), and Martha Plimpton (Kathleen).

Spoilers incoming… Tom Pelphrey likely isn’t returning, considering Robbie’s killed off in episode 6, and Alison Oliver’s in the same situation. Her character, Lizzie, also takes her last breath in episode 6.

I thought it was actually a really good choice because, with Lizzie’s trajectory, just before that moment, she actually reaches a breakthrough,” Alison told Elle about her character’s death. “She’s able to act instead of freezing in a high-stakes environment.”

Task Season 2 Plot

No plot details have been revealed yet since HBO hasn’t even confirmed a second season. That said, the show creator doesn’t seem opposed to some kind of crossover with his other hit show, Mare of Easttown .

“I think there were still more stories to be told about people in Delaware County,” Brad told The Hollywood Reporter in September. “They exist in the same world, so it wouldn’t surprise me one bit if Mare walked into a Wawa that Tom was in. I don’t have a story in mind that’s a crossover, but I love the idea of their worlds intersecting.” Well, I’m here for that crossover!

Praying for a speedy Task renewal.
