I don’t know about you, but it’s two weeks into the new year and I’ve already stopped following my New Year’s resolutions. The only thing I’m sticking to is trying to stay trendy on a budget. I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again: just because something is expensive does not mean it looks good, and the reverse is true. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to stay trendy! They’ll put that on my tombstone. Here are three trends that will be the talk of 2019 AND will keep you on-budget so you can keep paying for that gym membership we know you stopped using.
1. Neon
I’m not kidding—2019 is all about neon, neon, neon everything! I wasn’t on board with this trend until I saw Kendall Jenner wearing literally all things neon, and now I’m hooked. Tbh, she could wear a paper bag and I would run to the store to get my own.
The key to this trend is to have one thing in your outfit that stands out. Don’t go out in head-to-toe neon unless you want to be a traffic hazard, because that’s just dangerous for everyone. I found a great neon top from PrettyLittleThing. It’s perfectly on trend and can be worn in multiple different ways. Pair this with a black skinny pant, black leather pants, or even black jogger sweatpants for a full Hailey Bieber vibe.
PrettyLittleThing Neon Lime Snape Printed Scoop Neck Crop Top
If a top is too bold for you, try a neon shoe. It’s more subtle, but still lets everyone know that you’re trendy. Jeans, a T-shirt, and a neon heel is so 2019.
PrettyLittleThing Neon Yellow Clear Extreme Point Toe Mule
2. Hair Accessories
Another big trend for 2019 is hair accessories. I feel like I see every blogger rocking embellished headbands, and they look super cool. I’ve tried wearing headbands, and they make me feel like I should narrate the Gossip Girl reboot. XOXO, headbands are back.
ASOS Johnny Loves Rosie White Rhinestone Headband
Hair clips and hair bows are also very on-trend for 2019. Rhinestone hair clips are a great way to keep your dry-shampooed hair looking fresh.
ASOS Steve Madden Stone Hair Slides
Hair bows are perfect if you want to class up your Friday work outfit so your hangover is a little less noticeable.
Forever 21 Crinkle Bow Hair Tie
3. Top Handle Bags
I’m so happy top handle bags are in style because honestly, I’m sick of having a fanny pack around my body. It’s not comfortable and I’m tired of pretending it is! These bags are pretty and feminine, and they also help me limit the amount of makeup I feel is necessary to bring out.

New Year’s Eve is the one night it is socially acceptable to wear head to toe sparkles, and for that one reason only I will be going out. NYE plans are always changing at the last minute (you should see my group chat right now), but no matter what, it’s always a struggle to figure out what to wear. Whether you’re going for something a little more reserved, or all-out glam, you want to look great. I’ve put together three outfits for three different occasions, and of course, they’re all looks for less.
My first look is inspired by Kourtney Kardashian’s birthday dress. Maybe Kourtney will spend this NYE babysitting Sofia Richie? This is the quintessential New Year’s sparkle dress. I found this dress from Get Choosy, which perfectly replicated Kourt’s sexy look. To complete the look, I paired the dress with a simple heel and a hoop earring to, just like Kourtney. Throw on a black fur with this and it’s the perfect New Years Eve party look. The best part about all of this? The dress is only $55.
My next look is perfect if you want something a little flashy, but aren’t feeling the full glitter fantasy. I found this silk mustard dress from Zara, and paired it with thigh-high boots and a sheer bodysuit underneath. This look is great for a nice New Year’s dinner, whether you’re hitting the club after or not. This particular dress is a great purchase, because it can be worn in so many different ways, and this color is also very on trend right now. Full disclosure–I added the slit in this dress, and I think it really makes the look. If you don’t spend a lot of money on something, you don’t feel as bad changing it up!
My third look is for the person who wants to go all out this New Year’s Eve. This set is from Zara but the bodysuit and top can be worn long after the ball drops. This bodysuit is perfect with black pants or jeans if you’re staying low-key but want a pop of sparkle for a fun night out! These pants can also be worn with a simple black top and a chic pair of pumps. The set is perfect together for your over the top NYE glam, but it’s also a good investment piece. This specific set is sold out online, but it is still in stores, and here is a similar look!
If these looks are not your vibe and want to wear all black, I’ve totally been there. To add a little something interesting, here are a pair of statement earrings that will turn your low-key outfit up a notch. New Year’s fashion is all about having fun, so play around with your personal style, and take a risk!

I don’t mean to sound like the Grinch, but office holiday parties are the absolute worst. You have to work all day with these people, have three mental breakdowns in the bathroom (that may or may not be caused by these same coworkers), and then have to socialize with them? You have literally nothing in common with Karen from HR and you know she won’t shut up about her kids. Throw alcohol into the mix, and you’re playing a dangerous game. How do you drink just enough to tolerate Karen, but not so much that you’ll end up blurting out that nobody cares about little Jimmy’s baseball game? Not to mention, your invitation says “dress festively.” What the f*ck does that even mean? More importantly, how can you slut it up to catch the eye of the office hottie without getting reprimanded by your higher-ups? Not to worry, I have plenty of office holiday party outfits for you so that once when Karen stops yapping about how smart her 2-year-old is (doubt it) you can add in how inexpensive your dress is and how you plan on sleeping with Brett in accounting. Just kidding, maybe don’t mention that last part out loud to anyone except Brett in accounting.
Turtlenecks are probably the best parts of cold weather, apart from the fact that it’s now socially acceptable to never leave your apartment because it’s way too cold. To be clear, I don’t like the cold, but I do like any excuse to be the lazy piece of sh*t I am inside. But anyway, back to turtlenecks. I’m so glad these came back in style from the 90s when my mom would force me to wear them to school (and I would hate it because I felt like I was being choked all day). Thankfully, I have changed. Not only are turtlenecks cute to wear, but these shirts can do it all. They can help cover up a nasty pimple on your chin or a hickey (are people still giving each other hickies past the age of 16?), and they keep you warm without requiring a scarf.
The only downside to wearing a turtleneck is that sometimes it can make you look like Steve Jobs (shouts out to that episode of Vanderpump Rules where Stassi goes to the Hamptons). To steer you away from that mishap, here are a few great turtlenecks I found that are both cheap and stylish… that won’t make you look like an Apple exec. On second thought, maybe I do want to look like an Apple exec so people at work will take me seriously? Whatever, you know what I mean. These three turtlenecks are inexpensive, cute, and they’re perfect for the winter time.
With colder weather hitting us from all sides (and Thanksgiving being over), it’s officially time to transition your wardrobe to winter. I know, right? Fall lasted like, two days. Betcha wish you could go back in time to the summer when you couldn’t stop whining about how you couldn’t wait for it to be sweater weather. Right? Right, Jenna?? I’m just a little salty about the cold, don’t worry. In any case, one of the main things you’ll need to survive the winter will be a good jacket. And not just any jacket, a puffer jacket. These trendy marshmallow coats have been worn by the likes of Kendall Jenner, which means they will keep you warm and stylish all winter long. Thank god for small miracles. I’m not going to freeze my ass off for anyone or any trend this winter. It’s just too damn cold.
Unlike the bike shorts of this past summer, the puffer jacket trend is not going anywhere anytime soon, and THANK GOD. That means you can still buy one and justify your spending that much more. Tons of celebrities are killing it with their puffer jackets, matching them with any and all outfits, and you can too. I found copies of the best celeb puffer jackets that you can recreate this coming winter. But, obviously, I found them for way less—I know you don’t all have Kendall Jenner money, and with the holidays coming up, we all need to save where we can. So read on to find my favorite affordable puffer jackets.
Finding a coat that is transitional from fall to winter is one of the most satisfying things. Yes, it’s even better than blocking your ex on Instagram (and that really gives me a rush). Look no further than teddy bear coats for your trendy cold weather go-to. Tons of celebrities and bloggers are wearing this trend, so obviously, that’s all the validation I need to join in on this fluffy look. Here are some of my favorite celeb teddy bear coat inspirations and where to get their look for less.
The Coat: Kris Jenner
My first inspiration was Kween Kris Jenner. Instead of spending her momager budget on the teddy bear coat she’s wearing in the Instagram below, you will only be spending $100. You read that correctly. I found a total copy of Kris’s coat from H&M.
The Dupe: H&M Long Pile Coat
Unfortunately, the private plane does not come with this knock-off coat. We’ll just be wearing ours on the subway. It’s fine, I’m not salty or anything.
The Coat: Olivia Perez
My next inspiration was from style Icon Olivia Perez. Everyone seems to be wearing the I.Am.Gia teddy bear coat, but I found basically the same one from Pretty Little Things.
The Dupe: PrettyLittleThing Camel Borg Pocket Front Coat
This jacket is intended to look more oversized, giving you a relaxed but chic vibe. I like to pair mine with an all-black outfit on a Saturday night or sweats on a Sunday morning. This camel color is the best because it’s super versatile and adds a minimalistic neutral boost to your look.
Danielle Bernstein AKA We Wore What
How could we include a roundup of teddy bear coats without our favorite style icon, Danielle Bernstein. Although we may not all be Instagram sensations like We Wore What, you can still get the look at Cry Baby. It’s a complete replicated of the Acne Studios coat, which retails for up to $2,600.
The Dupe: Cry Baby It Girl Jacket
Lucky for you, Cry Baby has made one for under $100. It’s cropped in all the right places and has a little bit of an oversize shoulder, so the fit looks good on everyone.
Who knows how long teddy bear coats will be in style, so while you stay on-trend, do it without spending your entire paycheck. I mean, you’ll feel pretty stupid come next year if nobody is wearing teddy bear coats except you, because you dropped hundreds of dollars on one. Let me know in the comments what other trends or looks you want to see for less!

November chills force us to start layering and packing up our short-lived fall outfits. But just because it’s cold AF doesn’t mean you can’t look good. Thankfully, faux fur jackets are a trend that allow us to be both stylish and warm. That’s why I’ve rounded up some of the cutest faux furs. Perfect for all your favorite holiday activities like blacking out on the sidewalk and chasing down your uber in 30-degree weather. But since you’re also a broke betch and need to save money for like, presents (ew), they’re all under $100. So don’t call PETA on me, because these warm and stylish coats are all #vegan and #crueltyfree.
As you all know, going to work is the actual worst. Like, I have to wake up hours before my body naturally wants me to, all so I can go to a job just so I don’t die of starvation. Life is hard. It’s not just getting out of bed that ruins my day, but the fact that I have to put myself together enough to look like a functioning human. I wish we could all just give up the pretenses and allow sweatpants in the office. Personally, I think it would make everyone happier, and happy employees just don’t shoot their husbands do crappy work, right? Right. Like, I’m not even washing my hair on most days (thank you, dry shampoo) and I don’t think there’s been a Monday (or Tuesday, or Wednesday) that I haven’t showed up super hungover. Obviously, I reserve all my effort for looking good when I actually have the chance to see people I care about—Linda from HR, you do not count. So, here are some office looks for less that’ll make you look like you actually tried for once. Employee of the month over here.
Some of these office looks for less are inspired by my favorite era, and some are just inspired by the stuff I happen to have in my closet at the time. In any case, none of these outfits will cost your entire paycheck, so you can thank me for that. And, obviously, you’ll still look super cute in case you need to impress the cute guy in sales or whoever. And for more advice on what (not) to wear to work, buy our third book, When’s Happy Hour?
