Doja Cat’s follower count is dropping like the population of Hawkins, Indiana, and it’s not because of her unique nail art choices.
The 26-year-old Grammy-winning rapper and singer is instead facing backlash for her beef with 17-year-old Stranger Things star Noah Schnapp, losing over 200K Instagram followers in less than a week since it began.
If that sentence didn’t make much sense to you, allow me to explain.
The drama began last week, when Schnapp posted a TikTok leaking a DM exchange between himself and Doja in which she asks him for help contacting his co-star, Joseph Quinn, who played fan-favorite Eddie Munson in season 4.
Schnapp replied, “LMAOO slide into his dms” and later provided Doja with a link to Quinn’s Instagram account.
A quality wingman! Seems harmless, right?
Doja Cat chose to address the TikTok during her Instagram live on July 7, referring to it as “the whole fuckin’ Noah Schnapp thing.”
To make a long story short, Doja had an issue with Schnapp revealing their private conversation to the public.
She told fans, “The fact that Noah did that—like, went and posted a private conversation between me and him—is so unbelievably socially unaware and whack. That’s like, borderline snake shit. That’s like, weasel shit.”
However, she did acknowledge the age (and possible maturity) gap between herself and Schnapp.
“When you’re that young, you make mistakes. You do dumb shit. I’m like, trying to be super fair,” she said. “I made an assumption that he was gonna be chill about it, and he went and shared information that I didn’t feel comfortable with him sharing… I understand that other people are gonna like roll their eyes and be like, ‘Oh bitch please, you just tweeted that he’s fine’ which is like okay, but like the intention behind it.”
Doja Cat had previously shared her love for Quinn on Twitter, stating he’s “fine as shit” and replying to a fan that his looks are “fucking criminal.”

She further defended her previous comments explaining, “I’m gonna Tweet some shit that’s gonna get a reaction because it’s a meme and it’s dumb and like you know what I mean? Like yes, he’s attractive and I’m attracted to him, but like I hate the idea of like—there’s just something very weird, it’s like a very degrading and exploitative behavior and it’s embarrassing. It’s like super embarrassing.”
She concluded her livestream with the admission that “it’s not that deep; it’s just disappointing.”
Though Doja might’ve been over the situation, fans were just getting started, voicing their criticism and support on social media, to which she replied on Twitter.
y’all are so cringe and lame and nobody wants to hang w u that’s why y’all be on here unironically writing replies to shit that makes you mad.

Meanwhile, Schnapp had remained out of the conversation, quietly gaining over 1 million Instagram followers, until this Wednesday, when he posted a TikTok of himself doing math to a remix of Doja’s song “Kiss Me More.”
And no, it’s not a shady clapback. Instead, Schnapp commented, “Guys everything is all good I apologized and I still follow her and love her music no hard feelings” and pinned it so everyone would see.

So, it appears all is well again in the world of celebrity drama. Hopefully this serves as a reminder for Doja not to ask 17-year-olds for dating help in the future.
