Celebrities You Didn’t Know Are Friends With Each Other

It’s been a bizarre year for everyone, and spending nearly a year socially distanced and largely stuck inside has challenged us to get creative with the relationships in our lives. From Zoom events to outdoor dining in the dead of winter, tradition has gone out the window when it comes to keeping friendships alive, and especially when it comes to navigating the world of dating.

Luckily, our dating app Ship has made it easier than ever to stay connected in these now-precedented times, with its one-of-a-kind features designed to bring your friends into your search for love (or whatever you’re looking for, no pressure). Why spend your evenings on boring group FaceTimes when you could be matching for yourself and others at the same time? Because it’s been such an unexpected year for friendships everywhere, we rounded up a list of some unexpected celebrity BFFs that should definitely give Ship a try.

Bette Midler & 50 Cent

At this point, we all know about Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg’s iconic friendship, but they’re not the only woman of a certain age/rapper pairing who get along surprisingly well. 50 and Bette met because they both work with the New York Restoration Project, an organization dedicated to improving parks and public spaces around New York City. Bette has gushed about her friendship with 50, and thanked him in a NYRP speech, saying he’s been there for her “through thick and thin.”

Jennifer Aniston & Selena Gomez

Despite their significant age difference and very different career paths, Selena and Jen go way back. They met in 2014 because they were working with the same management company, and since then, they’ve become good friends, and Selena was even a guest when Jen guest-hosted Ellen last year. Rumors are swirling that Jen has a new man (not Brad Pitt, sadly), but if it’s not too serious, she and Selena could use Ship’s new Hype Line feature to leave notes to the potential matches they find for each other. If I was on a dating app and got a personalized note from Selena Gomez, I’m pretty sure I’d be matching ASAP.

Jonah Hill & The Olsen Twins

Now that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have left their acting careers behind, it’s unlikely that they’ll ever share the screen with Jonah Hill, but that hasn’t stopped them from becoming friends with each other. It’s unclear how they first met, but in 2018, the twins attended the Wall Street Journal Magazine’s award show to see Jonah receive an honor, and he even thanked them in his speech. Now that Mary-Kate’s divorce is final, maybe Jonah can help her get back into the dating scene.

Kourtney Kardashian & Travis Barker

Now that these two are an Instagram official couple, the cat is pretty much out of the bag, but a lot of people don’t realize that Travis and Kourtney were friends for a long time before they ever started dating. While they eventually realized their feelings for each other, the process could’ve been sped up by Ship’s “likes you” feature. The friends-to-lovers pipeline can be a tricky one to figure out, so it’s always helpful to have a hint that the other person is probably just as into you as you are to them.

If Kourtney and Travis could find love with each other, you never know what could be around the corner in your personal life. There’s no denying this has been a strange time for friendships and dating, but with apps like Ship, there are more possibilities for connection than ever. Fire up the app, get your crew together, and go for it.

Celebrities You Never Knew Attended the Same School

Most of us dread the thought of our high school days. For me, it’s awkward memories filled with braces and embarrassing stories. I have trouble remembering a large portion of my classmates, but if I had celebrity classmates, you can bet your bottom dollar I would remember them. What I gather from reading celebrity blind items is that Hollywood is a weird incestuous place where everybody knows each other. And often times, celebrities knew each other before they become famous. Like, a bunch of them even went to the same high schools. So random. Here is a list of the most famous celebrity classmates.

1. Nicky Hilton and Lady Gaga

Back when Lady Gaga was just Stephani, she and Nicky Hilton attended Convent of the Sacred Heart, an all-girls private Catholic school in NYC. Although Paris also went to the same school, Gaga didn’t see much of her since she was older. This duo just goes to show you that even though two girls started at the same school, they ended up in the public eye in very different ways.

2. Cameron Diaz and Snoop Dogg

The two attended Long Beach Polytechnic High school in California. Back in the day, Snoop was known as Calvin Broadus, but according to Diaz, he looked very similar. She has said, “He was a year older than me… I remember him, he was very tall and skinny. He wore lots of ponytails.” She is also “pretty sure” she bought weed from him. Some things never change.

3. Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman

Not only did these two successful actors go to high school together, but they have remained friends. The two attended North Sydney Girls’ High School, an all girl’s high school in Sydney’s north shore.

4. Eddie Redmayne and Prince William

The two men attended Eton, an all-boys boarding school in England. This school is considered to be rather pretentious prestigious, costing about $46,780.80 per year. Wow. But hey, the next king and an Oscar winner deserve nothing but the best, right?

5. Sean Penn, Robert Downey Jr., Rob Lowe, and Charlie Sheen

There is clearly something in the water at this high school. These four men attended Santa Monica High School in the 1980s. Although Penn and Lowe were the only two of the four to graduate, you can’t deny that this school fostered some well-known names. For those wondering, Downey Jr. dropped out and Sheen was kicked out just a few weeks prior to graduation. Neither of those facts surprise me.

6. Liv Tyler, Kate Hudson, and Zooey Deschanel

The three attended Crossroads High School in Santa Monica. As children of celebrities, Tyler and Hudson had a lot in common and became friends growing up. Deschanel and Hudson acted in the school’s production of Don Quixote. Who would have thought the two would then go on to star in Almost Famous together? (Yes, Zooey was in it, IMDB it if you don’t believe me.) Hmm. The more you know.

7. Tupac Shakur And Jada Pinkett Smith

This is maybe not that surprising since it’s commonly known that Tupac and Jada were close. Still, Tupac and Jada attended Baltimore School for the Arts in Maryland in the mid-80s and became fast friends. On the first day of school, he introduced himself to her and according to Jada, they “hit it off from that moment on.” She reminisces on their friendship, saying that he “was one of my best friends, he was like a brother.

8. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

If there is a better bromance in Hollywood, someone please let me know. Not only did the two attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin School in Massachusetts for high school, but they actually met in the third grade. The two have been inseparable over the years and it clearly works to their advantage, staring and co-producing countless blockbuster Netflix-worthy shows and movies.

9. Adele, Jessie J, Leona Lewis, and Amy Winehouse

These four women with powerhouse voices attended the BRIT School for Performing Arts and Technology in London. Jesse J and Adele were classmates, while Lewis and Winehouse were several years older. If you were to ask me about working on your singing, I’d say screw vocal lessons and attend this school. Who knows, maybe you’ll have some celebrity classmates of your own.

10. Adam Levine and Jonah Hill

We are ending this celebrity classmates list with a bang. Adam Levine and Jonah Hill not only attended junior high together but actually carpooled to school together. Hill said that “Our dads met in the principal’s office in junior high. We were in carpool, we lived at each other’s houses.” Since graduating, the two have remained close. Hill even officiated Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo’s wedding back in 2014.

The 10 Most Random Celebrity Friendships Ever

What’s weirder than random AF celebrity couples? Random AF celebrity friendships. Hear me out. Weird couples make sense—the sex can be so good that it makes up for your incompatibility in every other aspect. But for a friendship, you need to like, sit and talk. Like please, WTF did Cher and Tom Cruise have to talk about? NOTHING. Here is a list of the most random celebrity friendships that will blow your mind and wonder what they have in common.

1. Jennifer Lawrence and Kris Jenner

Jlaw is a huge Keeping Up With the Kardashians fan and for her 25th birthday surprise, she got Kris Jenner. Literally. Kris surprised her when she brought out the birthday cake. Since then, the two of them have had some amazing dinner parties (and lots of cocktails).  The most notorious story? Jennifer ended up naked in Kris’ closet, as one does.

2. Eminem and Elton John

After performing together at the 2001 Grammy’s, the two have stayed the best of friends. Before the performance, Eminem received some backlash for homophobic remarks, so his show was a huge statement. Also, Elton John, being the legend he is, helped Eminem with his sobriety. Friendship goals?

3. Ed Sheeran and Courtney Cox

Not only are Ed Sheeran and Courtney Cox friends, but in 2013, they were actually roommates for a few months. When he was working on his album X, Ed stayed with Courtney in California without paying rent (not that he couldn’t afford it). He was apparently the ideal house guest. Sheeran made his bed every day, poured Cox cups of tea, and introduced her to her current fiancé, Johnny McDaid.

4. Bob Saget and Macaulay Culkin

I feel like any friendship (or couple, hey Mila Kunis) is random AF when it involves Macaulay Culkin. But the fact that Kevin McCallister and Danny Tanner are hanging out just blows my mind. The fact that Kevin Macaulay is closer in age to Danny’s Bob’s fictional daughter Michelle Tanner than to his BFF just seems odd. But TBH I do get weird vibes from both of them, so I guess it’s not a horrible match.

5. Mariah Carey and Will Ferrell

I would label this one as one of the most random celebrity friendships on this list. But nevertheless, the two have hung out on multiple occasions together and are friends who support each other. Will went to Mariah’s Vegas show in 2016 (aw) and Mariah supported Will in the best way she knows how: vanity using her makeup school techniques. She did his makeup (aka probably posed for a photo pretending to do his makeup), and it was amazing. Maybe Mariah’s notorious diva status has rubbed off on him, or maybe Will is teaching her how to laugh at herself a little bit.

6. Ashton Kutcher and Princess Beatrice

Not only are they friends, but they went on a double date vacation with Mila Kunis and Dave Clark, Beatrice’s then-boyfriend. Back in 2013, the couples went on a trip to Saint-Tropez. What do two actors, a musician, and a princess speak about at dinner? I’d love to be a fly on the wall during that.

7. Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg

Not only are they BFFs, but they have their own TV show together called Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party. The concept of the show is to bring celebrity chefs and rappers together for a cook-off. BRB if you need me, I’ll be binge-watching the entire show. Rumor has it that the two bonded in 2008 when Snoop first guest appeared on Stewart’s show and made mashed potatoes. LOL.

8. 50 Cent and Bette Midler

Although this friendship may be très random, it’s actually super wholesome and cute. The two met while working on the New York Restoration Project, which Midler founded. She once said about 50, ”He’s one of the newest members of our tribe. He’s really made my life worth living.” Aww. Sounds so motherly and I’m loving it. This might be my favorite of the random celebrity friendships.

9. Helen Mirren and Russell Brand

What is with all these older white women becoming friends with crazy younger men? These two met on the set of Arthur and just hit it off, making them a definite contender on this “random celebrity friendships” list. Our fav prim-and-proper lady said, ” is the archetypal bad boy, who is really just the best, goodest boy you could possibly meet.” Cringing at “goodest” but other than that, super cute.

10. Snooki and John McCain

The beauty of Twitter is that it births the most random celebrity friendships. After Snooki gave birth to her son in 2012, McCain tweeted a heartfelt congratulations to her. Snooki responded with a simple, “I love you John McCain.” RIP John, we and Snooks miss you.

The Two Craziest Bitches On Bravo Are Friends Now

There are a lot of shocking things in this world. The fact that an angry reality TV star troll is president of the United States is a big one. Rachel picking creepo Bryan over beautiful human work of art Peter is a smaller scale surprise, but a surprise nonetheless. One thing that’s not shocking, however, is that the casts of Southern Charm and Vanderpump Rules are friends. I mean, they’re practically the same. They’re all shitty people. They all drink too much for their age. They’re all on a Bravo show that’s not Real Housewives. And we write recaps of their shows. See? Twinsies. We’ve known for a while now that Stassi is friends with Craig, Naomie, and Danni. But what about Kathryn? She’s young and kind of a BSCB. Perf for my VPR peeps. Well never fear, kiddos. They hung out last week.

Do I see a crossover in our future?

While out in Cali, Kathryn hung out with Stassi, Kristen and their non-Pump Rules star friend Rachael and they all seemed to be besties. Or as much of besties as three people who got lunch together one time can be. We all know that means absolutely nothing in Bravo-land but still worth mentioning.

Kathryn Dennis Stassi Schroeder

Kristen even dubbed Kathryn her “southern belle/supermodel spirit animal” which is actually a pretty accurate description since they’re both fucking nuts. The supermodel part might be a bit of a stretch, but I digress.

No word on if this will air on the upcoming season of VPR, but with all the shit that’s been going on, Bravo producers better be fucking living with our fave LA assholes bartenders at this point. Guess we’ll all find out in November or whenever tf VPR comes back.
