I can’t lie. When I first watched the new episode of Severance’s long-awaited second season, I was worried that the three musketeers Mark had grown to know and love were gone. Like, as much as I love Alia Shawkat and would follow her anywhere, the thought of never seeing Irving and Dylan bicker again was painfully upsetting. Luckily, the new replacement crew Mr. Milchick tried to thrust upon Mark S. didn’t last because he was a trueeeee friend (just like the Miley song says). But even though the three temporary newbies got the boot, Milchick’s new supervisor, Miss Huang, is here to stay. The fact that this iconic It Girl is about 30 years junior to everyone else in the office has gotten viewers thinking hard. Let’s unpack those fan theories about Miss Huang’s character in Severance.
Severance Season 2 Theory: Miss Huang
Is Miss Huang Mark’s daughter?
There’s a wild guess circulating the internet that Miss Huang is somehow the daughter of Mark and Gemma. I say somehow because if Miss Huang is a teenager, she’s technically way too old to have aged naturally from after Gemma died and Mark started working at Lumon a few years ago. But, the good ol’ detectives at Reddit have figured out a decent workaround.
You know how everyone is questioning Milchick’s assertion that five months have passed since the innies made headline news? What if a much longer period of time passed… like enough for Miss Huang to have aged into a teenager? Hey, it’s a stretch, but it’s not impossible.
What we do know for sure is that Miss Huang’s arrival at Lumon was described further on Lumon’s fake LinkedIn page. The post highlights that Miss Huang is a student fellow in a program run by Lumon. She also says in the episode she had a job as a crossing guard. Someone get this child an award.
Miss Huang is a robot
This is an obvious guess, and in Severnace-land the obvious answer usually isn’t right, but Miss Huang could be artificial intelligence of some sort. The way she speaks with the same disaffected monotone as Ms. Casey could be a hint she’s not just a normal severed employee and possibly has deeper alterations to her brain.
How old is Miss Huang’s character in Severance?
Even though her age isn’t explicitly stated, Miss Huang is a young teenager in the show. Her character comes across as a pre-teen specifically, which would be anywhere between 13 and 16 years old. That being said, Severance is a mind fuck, so maybe she’s actually a 100-year-old Benjamina Button, or something.
