ICYMI, Kim and Kanye West got engaged at AT&T Park in 2013. Kanye rented out a stadium, hired a massive orchestra, and surprised Kim by inviting her friends/family. All in all, it was a pretty low-key event for Kanye. The proposal was obviously filmed for Keeping Up With the Kardashians – because nothing says important personal moment like filming it for a national TV audience, but some guy secretly filmed the whole thing and put it online. That's the version you watched via BuzzFeed when the news originally was released.
Well that guy, Chad (douchebag name #4), got his ass sued by the Wests. At this point defendants in Kim Kardashian and Kanye West lawsuits should form a support group. Apparently, Chad broke a confidentiality agreement, committed fraud, and unjustly earned money for the video. The Wests settled with Chad for $440,000. So beyond whatever money they got for appearing in an episode of KUWTK, additional revenue from that episode's ratings, salaries from brands/products they endorsed during the episode, and gifts from clothing designers, they still made more fucking money. Meanwhile, my lunch yesterday was the free samples at Whole Foods.
Whatever, that $440K will buy a lot of Balmain.
