It's Time To Revisit Katy Perry's Roster Of Very Famous Exes

Quick question for you: Do you ever feel like a plastic bag? You know, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again? Katy Perry is probably feeling that way, coming fresh off her (potential?) breakup with Orlando Bloom. Katy and Orlando were together for a whopping nine years, and they were engaged for six of those years. So, if they truly did break up, it must have left Katy with that quintessential plastic bag feeling.

Luckily, Katy’s got a lot of love in her life. After her infamous 11-minute flight to outer space, Katy said one of her biggest takeaways was feeling “super connected to love.”

You never know how much love is inside of you, like how much love you have to give and how loved you are until the day you launch,” Katy said after she landed back on Earth. It’s a good thing Katy launched into space. Otherwise, she might not feel all that love when she needs it most, post-breakup. I kid, I kid, but seriously, Katy’s clearly feeling the love.

And she’s felt the love over the years. In the aftermath of Katy and Orlando’s relationship, let’s take a look at Katy Perry’s relationship history over the years, which is full of very famous exes.

Katy Perry’s Relationship History

Fun fact: Katy started her career as a Christian pop star. So it makes sense that she dated the guitarist from the Christian rock band Relient K, Matt Thiessen, from 2003 to 2005.

Then, from 2005 to 2006, Katy dated Sons of Anarchy actor Johnny Lewis right before her career really took off.

Travie McCoy

Katy continued her monogamy streak by dating Gym Class Heroes frontman and “Stereo Hearts” rapper Travie McCoy from 2007 to 2008.

Josh Groban

Katy and Josh Groban never technically dated, but rumors circled the would-be couple in 2009. Josh told Details magazine in 2013 that they “skated on the line of dating,” whatever that means.

Russell Brand

And this all brings us to Russell Brand. They started dating toward the end of 2009, and their whirlwind romance led to a wedding in India in October 2010. However, the marriage only lasted a year and led to a split in December 2011. Apparently, Katy felt totally disrespected by Russell, which isn’t surprising, given everything about him.

“Katy doesn’t think Russell respects her parents’ Christian beliefs or her friends,” a source told Us at the time, citing a fight they had about where to spend the holidays. “She was like, ‘Fuck you. I’m going to do my own thing.‘ Russell replied, ‘Fine, fuck you too.'”

Robert Ackroyd

After Russell, Katy had a little rebound fling with Florence + The Machine guitarist Rob Ackroyd in 2012, but it wasn’t too serious.

John Mayer

Katy did get serious when she started dating John Mayer later in 2012. They lasted two years and broke up in 2014, then briefly got back together in 2015. But they called it quits for good after that. I weirdly feel like these two work as a couple, don’t @ me.

Diplo

Katy dated Diplo for almost a full year in 2015. They hit up Coachella and lots of premieres together before eventually calling it quits.

Orlando Bloom

We all witnessed the start of Katy and Orlando’s relationship when they hung out together in front of InStyle‘s Golden Globes party in 2016. After sharing a vape — ah, the true sign of romance — they dated for the next year. They took some space from each other in early 2017 and then rekindled the romance in January 2018.

After that, Orlando popped the question to Katy on Valentine’s Day 2019. They welcomed their daughter Daisy together in 2020, and as far as fans knew, they were spending the last few years wedding planning. But alas, all signs are pointing to a breakup in June 2025, and now Katy’s gonna show ’em what she’s worth. She is, after all, a firework.
