I'm Convinced Joe Jonas' New Song "Work It Out" References His Divorce From Sophie Turner

Was Joe Jonas’ first and only solo album, Fastlife, successful? Not exactly. In fact, I fear it was a rather catastrophic flop. But that’s not stopping the former Disney king from trying the solo route one more time! A little less than a year after he and Sophie Turner shocked the world by announcing their divorce, Joe is back with new music about getting through hard times. His lead single, “Work It Out,” comes out on July 19, and fans can expect his full sophomore album, Music For People Who Believe In Love on October 18. “I’m both excited and emotional as I’m gearing up to release new music,” he wrote on Instagram. I am also excited and emotional, ’cause I saw a video of him performing the new single live, and the lyrics are making me feel sad about his divorce again.

Since I’m a professional gossip and music stan, here are all the lyrics in Joe Jonas’ new song, “Work it Out,” that seem to reference his split from Sophie Turner.

Why Did Joe Jonas And Sophie Turner Break Up?

There are a lot of unanswered questions about this divorce, but here’s what we know. A source told Us Weekly that Sophie didn’t like being known as “the Jonas brother’s wife” (don’t blame her). Apparently, “She didn’t want to go on tour and do everything together. It’s not her personality, and she wanted to keep their family separate from all the Jonas Brothers hoopla.” I guess starring in the “Sucker” music video and going to JoBros shows all the time has some negative consequences.

Another source noted that it was all just too much for Sophie. “Being a mom on the road is not easy, even when you have unlimited resources,” they said. “It was just hard for them to settle into a regular routine because of Joe’s career especially.”

Sophie also found Joe “controlling,” according to a third source. “Joe liked to flirt a little too much while out in public, but then he wouldn’t like it when she would get too close to her male friends,” they told the magazine. Ope, a major red flag right there.

And then, there was the whole weird ring camera situation. TMZ reported that Joe saw or heard something in ring camera footage that led him to file for divorce. The outlet did not specify what it was at the time, but Us Weekly‘s first source claimed that it was Sophie saying “some not-so-nice things” about Joe to one of her friends. Allegedly, that was “the final straw.”

Joe Jonas’ “Work It Out” Lyrics Referencing Sophie Turner

Joe’s brand new tune, “Work It Out,” is all about getting yourself out of a depressed headspace and reminding yourself that everything’s gonna be okay. I have to assume our guy was in a bad place largely because of his sudden and messy divorce — and the custody disagreement that followed. “Stop bein’ sad ’cause you’re makin’ the room uncomfortable,” Joe sings about himself in the first verse, emphasizing that he’s been feeling “so miserable.”

In the chorus, he reflects on his responsibility to turn his life around. “No, nobody’s gonna save you now,” he croons. “No, nobody’s gonna pull you out / Brush your shoulders off, life’s gonna work it out.” Joe also references therapy in the song and says his “anxiety’s got anxieties.”

Wishing Joe all the best, but buying “even baddies get saddies” merch is unfortunately against my morals.
