Instagram Announces Launch Of #Instaprom Tool Kit Live On IG With Betches

Given *gestures broadly to the world* everything, many of us are spending a lot more time on our phones, scrolling through Instagram, watching everyone we know go live, and also wondering how we can help those in need, those on the front lines, and those affected by the coronavirus pandemic. As of Tuesday, April 28, you can watch people go live on Instagram and help people at the same time, and all without leaving the app, thanks to the newly launched Instagram Live Donations feature.

The next time you go live on Instagram, you can put it towards a good cause (and no, your clout does not count). Using the Instagram Live Donations feature, users can create a fundraiser directly in the live, and those tuning in can donate directly to the designated cause. Users who have donated using the feature get access to a special I Donated sticker, which they can use on their stories for a limited time.

On Friday, May 1, Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri went live on Instagram with Betches Co-Founder Sami Fishbien to talk about the Instagram Live Donations feature, how he and his family have been holding up in quarantine, and play truth or dare to raise money for World Central Kitchen, one of the foundations in Betches Media’s Good Influence Fund for Corona Relief.

And also on the live, Mosseri announced a new feature on Instagram for everyone who’s missing out on their proms. Starting Saturday, May 2, users can utilize Instagram’s #instaprom tool kit to celebrate prom virtually. They can share pictures on Story utilizing prom-themed stickers and take pics with a new AR Photo Booth effect for some added flair on Stories. Instagram is also launching a prom theme for Music Stickers, making it easy for Instagram users to find the perfect soundtrack for their virtual proms.

In addition to the #instaprom tool kit features, Instagram creators are connecting with their followers who are missing out on prom, using Challenges. Fashion designer Brandon Maxwell (@brandonmaxwell) is hosting a #PromDIY dress challenge, encouraging his followers to create a DIY prom dress design using what they have at home. Sounds like the Project Runway unconventional challenge we’re all been waiting for. Nia Sioux (@Niasioux) is hosting a #prompic Challenge, and celebrity makeup artist Katie Hughes (@katiejanehughes) is hosting a #StayHomeAndProm makeup challenge. @Instagram will also be featuring a series of prom-themed takeovers from creators sharing their tips and tricks on how to host the most memorable DIY prom at home.

Betches Media’s Good Influence Fund for Corona Relief connects our community to groups fighting on the front lines of an unprecedented crisis. We launched this initiative a few weeks ago and have raised over $59K.
