‘Brittany Runs A Marathon’ Is Starting A Movement That We’re So Here For

If you’ve ever read our articles or listened to the Diet Starts Tomorrow podcast, you know that we keep it real when it comes to the struggles of being healthy. Dieting, working out, and trying to keep up with health trends isn’t easy, and anyone who says otherwise is just lying. That’s why we’re proud to partner with the new Amazon original film, Brittany Runs A Marathon.

Brittany Runs A Marathon is a hilarious, no bullsh*t story about a woman who decides she needs to make a change. We’ve all been there. In the movie, Brittany is a 27-year-old New Yorker who is hilarious, outgoing, and everybody’s best friend—except maybe her own. Her hard-partying ways, chronic underemployment and toxic relationships are catching up with her, but when she stops by a new doctor’s office to try to score some Adderall, she gets slapped with a prescription she never wanted: Get healthy. Not tomorrow, not next week… NOW. Too broke for a gym and too proud to ask for help, Brit laces up her sneakers and runs one sweaty block. The next day, she runs two. And soon, after finishing her first mile, she sets an almost unthinkable goal: running in the New York City Marathon.

Whether you’re training for a marathon, or just trying to make it to the gym once this month, we can all relate to the daily struggle of being the best version of ourselves. We love the message of Brittany Runs A Marathon, and to help spread the word, we hosted an event in NYC that was all about embracing your inner marathon. Our resident Betches and Diet Starts Tomorrow cohosts Sami and Aleen got the kicked things off on Sunday morning, and Rumble Boxing founder Noah Neiman fired up the crowd with a kickass warmup. From there, we ran (or walked, no judgment here) to a free screening of Brittany Runs A Marathon, complete with mimosas, popcorn, and some amazing giveaways.

After enjoying the movie, Sami hosted a discussion with the writer and director Paul Downs Colaizzo and Brittany O’Neil, who is the real-life inspiration behind Brittany Runs A Marathon. Tears were shed, mimosas were chugged, and we all got a little much-needed inspiration for whatever journey we’re on right now.

If you missed our event in NYC, you might not get a free mimosa, but you can still get in on the inspirational side of things. Brittany Runs A Marathon is in theatres in New York and Los Angeles today, August 23rd, with a nationwide expansion in the coming weeks, and we’re keeping the #goals going with a social challenge that you can all get in on. More details will be coming soon, so stay tuned to @dietstartstomorrow on Instagram, but we want you to celebrate your personal marathon, big or small, because every goal is important. Your marathon is entirely up to you, and it doesn’t even have to be about fitness. You could drink more water, or drink less alcohol, or even just make it to work on time (but we understand if this is too much to ask). Brittany Runs A Marathon and the #whatsyourmarathon challenge is all about taking the steps you need to take, and we’re all working toward something.

Don’t forget to see Brittany Runs A Marathon, in theatres today, and tag #whatsyourmarathon in all your posts!
