The Best And Worst Dressed Celebs At The 2025 Tonys

Have you checked in on the theater kids in your life lately? We’ve been experiencing unprecedented levels of newsworthy relevance lately. Between the glory of the two Wicked movies and the drama surrounding Patti LuPone and her controversial interview, our emotions have been running wild — and we’re already a pretty emotional bunch to begin with. So we deserve a little something nice, and the 78th Annual Tony Awards delivered.

The 2025 Tony Awards felt like a celebration. It’s Broadway’s biggest night, after all; it’s the Super Bowl for kids who have never held a football. Every year, the award show is a treat, but this year felt especially fun. Maybe it’s because this was apparently Broadway’s most lucrative year in history, although I think a large part of that is solely thanks to the enormous ticket prices for George Clooney’s play Good Night And Good Luck. Or maybe it’s because Cynthia Erivo hosted and graced the stage with multiple impeccable vocal performances. Or probably because the whole show was just full of so much joy.

From Cole Escola’s historic win as the first nonbinary person to take home the Best Actor in a Play award to the exuberant Hamilton 10-year anniversary performance, this year’s Tony Awards was one for the books. And the stars had some memorable looks while it was all going down. A lot were memorable for being simply gorgeous and then there were the choice few that were memorable for not-so-good reasons. Let’s take a look at the best and worst-dressed celebs at the 2025 Tony Awards.

The Best And Worst Dressed Celebs At The Tonys

Best — Cole Escola

Not only did Cole take home the Best Actor award for their starring role in Oh, Mary! but they did it while paying homage to another Broadway legend. Cole’s 2025 Tonys look was inspired by the gown Bernadette Peters wore while accepting her Tony Award in 1999. Plus, the nod to Bernadette was also a nod to one of Cole’s classic cabaret bits from before they made their Broadway debut. They looked like a princess. Chef’s kiss all around.

Worst — Darren Criss

I’m sorry, but the cut of those pants paired with that pattern is not doing Darren any favors. At least he has his Best Actor in a Musical award to comfort him.

Best — Nicole Scherzinger

Nicole was pure glamor in a sparkly red number as she took home the Best Actress in a Musical trophy for Sunset Boulevard.

Best — Harvey Fierstein

This year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to the very deserving Harvey Fierstein, but he also won a spot on the Best Of list thanks to his ingenious snack bag accessory.

Best — Sadie Sink

The Stranger Things star celebrated her Tony nom in this icy blue gown that made her look like a dream.

Best — Audra McDonald

Queen Audra may have lost the Best Actress award to Nicole Scherzinger, but she looked absolutely gorgeous on the red carpet. The shade of blue of her skirt embellishment matches her Mama Rose dress at the end of Gypsy, which I think was a perfect homage to her role.

Worst — Sarah Snook

All hail Shiv Roy forever, but I’m sorry, the color of this dress is simply washing Sarah out.

Best — Jonathan Groff

The currently reigning King of Broadway matched the red carpet in this perfectly fitted burgundy suit.

Best — Dylan Mulvaney

Dylan looks like the Statue of Liberty come to life in this beautiful gown.

Best — Kalen Allen

This emerald green, wide-legged suit was an absolute dream on Kalen.

Worst — Katie Holmes

Unfortunately, Katie Holmes’ green shirt had the opposite effect on her. It kinda looks like a sack tucked into an ill-fitted skirt. Oops.

Worst — Kristin Chenoweth

I love me some, Kristin, but the tulle on this dress makes it look like it belongs a little more on a costume rack backstage rather than on the red carpet.

Best and Worst — Amal and George Clooney

Best goes to Amal for a flawless pearl-encrusted gown. The worst, however, goes to George for his kinda boring tux. It’s the Tonys, George! Live it up a little!

Best — Leslie Odom Jr.

Leslie’s suit is draped oh so perfectly, and I love it paired with the sunglasses.

Worst — Lin-Manuel Miranda

Lin deserves all the flowers for Hamilton and the spectacular 10th-anniversary performance. But couldn’t someone have talked to him about this Pee-Wee Herman-esque suit?

Best — Hamilton Cast

Speaking of Hamilton, though, let’s take a moment at how perfect the entire cast looked in all black for the performance.

Best – Cynthia Erivo

Cynthia rocked many a fabulous look throughout the night as host, but she deserves some extra praise for this stunning red carpet look. It’s giving royal excellence, and I love it.
