Damn, Viola Davis. The star of How to Get Away with Murder was fucking incredible in her Emmy acceptance speech.
Davis became the first African-American woman to win an Emmy for outstanding lead actress in a drama series. And then she wowed the crowd (and country) with an emotional response that brought fellow actress Kerry Washington to tears.
“The only thing that separates women of color from anyone else is opportunity,” Davis said. “You cannot win an Emmy for roles that are simply not there.”
Good on you, Viola, for taking the stage to make a change. And now we feel no shame in binge watching your show for days to come.
