Start your week off right with some disappointing and fucked up news: Kesha’s back with an Instagram post that claims she was “offered [her] freedom IF [she] were to lie…[she] would have to APOLOGIZE publicly and say that [she] never got raped.” Back in 2014 Kesha began a legal battle with her producer Dr. Luke (Lukasz Gottwald) to get out of her contract with him, citing sexual assault and battery amongst her charges (and, if true, completely legitimate reasons not to want to work with someone who has power over you.) The post goes on to say “THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS behind closed doors. I will not take back the TRUTH. I would rather let the truth ruin my career than lie for a monster ever again.” Otherwise known as the subtweet to end all subtweets. Usually I’d tell anyone using that many capital letters to chill, but considering her reasoning I think I’ll allow it.
Dr. Luke’s spokesperson told E! News a bunch of things, the most important being that they “look forward to [their] day in court holding Kesha accountable for her lies.” Basically the whole ordeal is a giant he-said-she-said. While the final court decision ruled it impossible for Kesha to regain control of her music career away from Dr. Luke, she is however completely free to record without his personal involvement. “The Court erred in basing its decision on its finding that Kesha could record without interference from Gottwald…it recognized that ‘slavery was done with a long time ago’ and that ‘[you] can’t force someone to work…in a situation in which they don’t want to work,’ the Court’s ruling requiring Kesha to work for Gottwald’s companies, purportedly without his involvement, does just that. As the Court itself recognized, ‘[it’s] slavery. You can’t do that.’”
Well, if she’s going back to court, shit’s definitely about to hit the fan. For now, let’s just continue to #PrayForKesha.
